Creation Stories Around the World
Exploring How Different Faiths Understand the Beginning of the
World
Grade 4 Religious Education – Week 1
Teacher’s Guide
This Reading Corner booklet explores creation stories from six world religions, helping
students appreciate diversity, respect beliefs, and understand how different cultures
explain the beginning of life and the world. Use this booklet for reading, discussion,
and creative activities such as story retelling, art, and vocabulary work.
Christianity
In the beginning, there was nothing but God. God said, 'Let there be light!' and light
appeared. Over six days, God created the sky, land, sea, plants, animals, and people.
On the seventh day, God rested.
Judaism
Jewish people believe that Adonai created the world in six days and rested on the
seventh. Each part of creation had a purpose, and people were made to care for it.
Islam
Muslims believe Allah created everything by saying 'Be!' and it was. He made the
heavens, earth, animals, and humans from clay, breathing life into them.
Hinduism
Hindus believe Brahma, the Creator, came from a golden egg floating in the sea. He
made the heavens, earth, and all creatures, with Vishnu and Shiva helping to keep
balance.
African Traditional Religion
In African stories, the Sky God sent Obatala to create dry land. Obatala poured sand
onto the water, and a hen spread it with her feet. Land appeared, and life began.
Sikhism
Sikhs believe God created the world through His Word, the Shabad. The first verse,
the Mool Mantar, says, 'There is One God. His Name is Truth. He is the Creator.'
Picture–Word Matching Cards & Mini Posters
Use the picture–word cards for vocabulary review and storytelling. Each mini-poster
shares quick facts about a religion’s view of creation. Encourage students to compare
ideas, reflect on harmony with nature, and discuss shared values.
