A. Describe the characteristics and behavior of Dengue Fever Vector
(Mosquito), with relevant pictures.
The dengue fever vector mosquito is the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
It is a tiny, black and white mosquito about 5mm long. It has white markings on its legs and body
and a black-and-white striped pattern on its wings. These mosquitoes can be found in tropical
and subtropical regions around the world. They are most standard in urban areas, brewing in
standing water containers such as buckets, flowerpots, and mostly discarded tires.
Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are daytime biters. They are most active in the morning and afternoon;
however, they can bite at any time. When an Aedes aegypti mosquito bites a person infected with
the dengue virus, the virus can be transmitted to the mosquito. The mosquito then becomes
infected with the virus and can transfer it to others when it bites them. The virus can also be
transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy or childbirth.
Here are some additional characteristics and behaviors of the Aedes aegypti
mosquito:
●
●
●
●
They are adequate at flying and can traverse up to 400 meters from their breeding site.
They are attracted to shady, murky places, such as underneath beds and furniture.
They are also attracted to the fragrance of sweat and CO2.
Female mosquitoes need to feed on blood to lay eggs. They can lay up to 100 eggs at a
time.
● Depending on the temperature, the eggs can hatch in as little as a week.
● The larvae develop into adults in about two weeks.
B. How can we will be able to control aggressive Dengue fever in
Bangladesh this year? With relevant pictures.
Dengue fever is an influential public health crisis in Bangladesh.
The country has experienced several dengue outbreaks recently, and the disease is now endemic.
The Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector for dengue fever, is found in all parts of Bangladesh.
Several things can be done to control dengue fever in Bangladesh. These include:
Integrated vector management (IVM) combines strategies used to control mosquito
populations. These strategies include:
● Environmental management and source reduction involve eliminating or
reducing mosquito breeding sites, which can be done by emptying standing water
containers, repairing leaks, and covering water storage containers.
● Larvicide treatment: This involves using chemicals to kill mosquito larvae.
● Adulticide treatment: This involves using chemicals to kill adult mosquitoes.
● Personal protection involves using insect repellent and sleeping under a
mosquito net.
● Vaccination: A dengue vaccine is available but is not yet widely used in Bangladesh.
● Early detection and treatment: Premature detection and treatment of dengue fever is
essential to prevent severe complications. This includes educating people about the
symptoms of dengue fever and encouraging them to seek medical attention if they are
sick.
The government of Bangladesh is taking steps to control dengue fever. These steps include:
Dhaka North to apply biological larvicide Bti to control dengue from Sunday
● Strengthening surveillance: The government is strengthening management for dengue
fever by increasing the number of sentinel sites and improving laboratory testing.
● Implementing IVM: The government is implementing IVM in high-risk areas.
● Providing education: The government is educating the public about dengue fever.
● Improving access to healthcare: The government is improving access to healthcare for
people with dengue fever.
These measures are being taken to control dengue fever in Bangladesh. However, it is
challenging, as the Aedes aegypti mosquito is a very adaptable insect. It is vital to continue to
invest in research and development to find new ways to control dengue fever.
In addition to the government's efforts, individuals can also take steps to protect themselves from
dengue fever. These include:
● Emptying standing water containers: One of the most important things you can do to
prevent dengue fever. Standing water is where mosquitoes breed. Empty any containers
that hold water, such as buckets, flowerpots, and birdbaths.
● Cover water storage containers: If you cannot empty a container, cover it tightly so
mosquitoes cannot enter.
● Use insect repellent: One should use an insect repellent that contains DEET or
picaridin. Reapply the repellent as directed.
● Wear long sleeves and pants: When outdoors, one should wear long sleeves and pants
for protection from mosquito bites.
● Sleep under a mosquito net: If you sleep indoors, sleep under a mosquito net.
● Get vaccinated: If traveling to an area with common dengue fever, you may want to get
Vaccinated.
By taking these steps, you can help protect yourself and your family from dengue fever.
