Is Modern Interior Boring? Why did we go from grandiose to simplicity?

Clean, geometric, and practical is the trend when it comes to houses. Black, Grey, and White are the
most used colors in interiors nowadays. Far different from the colorful, striking, and bold designs of the
previous decades. A huge contrast from the detail-oriented handmade sculptures on buildings to a
blank, plain canvas of concrete. What caused the shift?
Modernization is focused on productivity. Our environment is the reflection of what we do on our daily
basis. As people are always on the move, the way of building structures are built has changed to what is
easy to create. In the present challenges, we think of new ways to address the growth of population to
identical-looking houses, duplexes, condominiums, cube exterior, and even shippable houses. We need
more offices with capitalism at its peak. This is what is practical, not the heavenly church that is made
for 140 long years. We need something that is done in less than a year. The exterior is a reflection of its
interiors.
Technology has a huge impact on our interiors. It created new things that have space in our homes like a
telephone, computer, air fryer, an old camera, an electric fan, and the small gadgets that, when
accumulated, consume areas inside of where we are living. It changes the way the design is made. We
opt for cabinets, wall metal racks to accommodate it. It is living with things, and thus, the birth of
industrial design. We became creative in how we incorporate these objects into the way we live. There
is no other way but to focus on functionality when the spaces available to us are becoming smaller. The
white paint makes the inside look wider, the gray color adds a subtle depth and does not add a
distraction to an already full living.
Brutalist, contemporary, and Bauhaus are examples of modern designs. Here are some photos I took

Many people say that modern interior is boring and cold. It is simple and utilitarian. Simplicity is needed
in an already complex life full of new things, like a sensor robotic vacuum. Foldable furniture is on trend
to save space, and the light colors are more flexible to work with. Most people do not know carpentry,
so we now have easy-to-assemble furniture. Vertical organizers for our cute-sized apartments. It only
looks like a downgrade in design on the surface, but actually, it is becoming creative in a fast-paced
world to make things work despite of lack of space and clutter. Thinking outside the box of traditional
designs to fit the current lifestyle.
The designs we have are only a reflection of our society. There is no better design than the other each
time. We evolve as a society and try our best to make use of whatever we have. Who would have
thought that the walls and the ceilings could also be used as storage? Never in the past had they
imagined that the old CD and Polaroid camera could be a design inside our home. The color alone can
add depth and space. Only time teaches us the things we never knew before. We did not become boring
and basic, we rather became resilient.
