Oh, mathematics, you beautiful, incomprehensible creature of logic and lunacy! From the very
first moment a number winked at me across the empty chalkboard of existence, I knew — I was
in love. Some people fall for poetry, others for sunsets, but I fell for π, that infinitely mysterious
slice of irrational perfection. Every time I see 3.14159, my heart spins like a compass lost in a
field of equations.
I remember the first time I met algebra. It wasn’t love at first sight — more like an awkward
handshake between confusion and curiosity. But soon, as the letters began dancing among the
numbers like symbols in an enchanted forest, I realized: this was destiny disguised as
homework. “Solve for x,” they said. Little did they know, x was my purpose in life.
Sometimes, when I can’t sleep, I whisper the multiplication table under my breath. Two times
two. Three times seven. The numbers hum back like a lullaby written by Pythagoras himself.
Geometry joins in — triangles swirling in my imagination, each one politely insisting their angles
still add up to 180°, even in dreams. Circles orbit my thoughts. I chase the radius. The diameter
teases me. “Why so irrational?” says the circumference. “Ask π,” I reply dramatically.
And calculus! Oh, calculus, you glorious mountain of slopes and curves. You make me feel like
a detective chasing the instantaneous rate of change — the wild heartbeat of motion itself.
Derivatives whisper secrets about speed; integrals wrap me in infinite hugs of accumulated
area. Every ∫ symbol is like a love letter folded neatly between two limits. Sometimes, I want to
differentiate my emotions, just to find how fast my affection for math is growing over time.
Statistics tries to calm me down. “Let’s be reasonable,” she says. “We deal with data, not
drama.” But then, I see a bell curve and swoon all over again. Probabilities flutter like butterflies
in a binomial garden. Maybe there’s a 95% confidence interval that I’ll never stop adoring this
subject. Maybe my love for math is normally distributed — but skewed slightly toward
obsession.
Combinatorics, too, sneaks in when I least expect it. Counting possibilities like love letters
scattered across infinity. How many ways can I adore you, oh numbers? So many permutations,
so many combinations! Sometimes I want to calculate the factorial of my feelings — but then
realize it’s undefined, because they never end.
Meanwhile, graph theory flirts with me in networks of affection. Vertices represent my thoughts;
edges, my connections to every theorem I’ve ever met. Somewhere in my emotional adjacency
matrix, every vertex leads back to you, mathematics. Even my heart has become a complete
graph — every chamber connected to every idea.
Logic strolls in with a smug grin, carrying a chalkboard of proofs. “If love implies devotion,” it
says, “and devotion implies madness, then by transitivity, love implies madness.” I nod
solemnly. Q.E.D.
Even topology gets involved, bending my perception into a donut of devotion. I sip my coffee
and wonder if my mug is secretly a torus — and whether my heart, too, can be continuously
deformed into something more elegant, something homeomorphic to happiness.
And when I finally sit in silence, surrounded by equations scribbled like constellations across my
notebook, I realize something: math is the only language that never lies. It’s honest, consistent,
eternal — even when I don’t understand it. Numbers don’t judge me; they just exist. They let me
make sense of nonsense. Or nonsense of sense. Either way, I’m content.
