Speakers Name: Claire Green
HI Claire, this was nice speech which focused on the life and the selfless actions of
Maximilian Kolbe. You effectively included all the elements of an introduction, such as having an
effective attention grabber about Maximilian Kolbe. By getting the audience to put themselves
in the shoes of Kolbe, who volunteered to die of starvation in place of a stranger, you gained the
interest of the audience and established your credibility as the speaker. In the conclusion, you
effectively summarized your main points. You even did better by introducing a call to action
where you urged the audience to be people of sacrificial love and be able to notice the suffering
of others and offer help or hope.
Regarding the use of sources, you included a variety of articles, such as a Polish medical
review article on the psychology of prisoners in Nazi camps, notes from Kolbe himself, St. John
Paul II's speech, and a speech by Jessica Keading Floyd, the director of the Notre Dame Office of
Life and Human Dignity Rights. These sources supported the speech, although you could do
better by giving a bit of background information on the sources before fully telling the audience
how they support your argument on Kolbe. For instance, you can give the article's name or the
speech context to make it easier for the audience to cross-check the sources if need arises.
The main points in your speech were Kobe's sacrificial love in Awitz, compassion during
immense suffering, and victory over hatred with love. These main points sounded natural and
were relevant in the speech. The summary of the main points was also commendable, and it
made the speech flow. One thing I would advise you to improve in your next speech is the use
of effective transitions between main ideas. The transitions should be clear to notify the
audience that you are moving from one point to another.
Regarding your speech delivery, you were clearly audible and very coherent in your
speech. Your speaking rate was perfect, and you articulated your points clearly. It seems that
you have mastered the topic and rehearsed well since you avoided the use of filler words. One
area I can suggest improving on is maintaining eye contact with the audience. You seemed to
be spending most of your time reading from the outline. You should instead use your notes or
the outline as a guide for your speech and ensure you interact more with the audience by
maintaining eye contact and using gestures.
Speakers Name: Lacy Piechowiak
Hi Lacy, you included all the elements of the introduction, although there are some
improvements you can make. For instance, you had an attention grabber in her introduction,
but it was not at the start of the speech, but rather in the middle of the introduction. The
attention grabber “How many times have you ever been behind an assignment and need some
helpful brainstorming on a project?” would have been useful as the first statement in the
introduction to get the attention of the audience and help them relate to the topic. Other areas
where you did well were previewing the main idea and the main points, and establishing your
credibility using ethos, such as your experience when using AI to complete assignments or check
grammar. As for the conclusion, you summarized the main points effectively and gave a call to
action about the need to identify the dangers of AI to ensure that it is used for correct and
ethical purposes.
The sources you cited included Kennedy 2025, Geeks for Geeks (2025), Brian Kenny, IBM
2024, and the Washington University study. However, you could have done better in the
integration of these sources in your speech. For instance, when introducing a source, you need
to state the title of the article and not just the author’s name and year of publication. This helps
the audience appreciate the relevance of the sources used and makes it possible for them to
check the credibility of the sources on their own.
Your main points and subpoints revolved around the advantages of using AI and the
limitations that come with it. These points were natural and well phrased. One argument I liked
was that some of the older generations might be reluctant and uncomfortable with AI since it is
helping the younger generations build their lives easily, when the older generations had to take
a hands-on approach to yield results. Additionally, you also used a preview between the main
points, and the transitions were solid.
In terms of delivery, you were coherent and audible enough. Your rate of speaking was
perfect, and you avoided the use of filler words. However, for the camera setting, I suggest that
you should place the camera at an angle where we are able to see your face as well as the faces
of the audience. In this speech, you were barely visible, and this made it tough to gauge your
facial expressions and other aspects of non-verbal communication. From the little I could see,
you were extensively engaged in reading from your outline, which meant that your eye contact
with the audience was limited. I would advise you to prioritize non-verbal cues such as eye
contact, facial expressions, and gestures to connect with the audience and keep them focused
on the speech.
