what if we never separated with malaysia ? would all this still be
here today? are we better off children of ‘divorce’?
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO OUR
POLTIICAL LANDSCAPE…?

Remaining in Malaysia would have meant less
political independence for Singapore. The
central government in Kuala Lumpur would
control key policies, leaving the People’s Action
Party with limited power. Political clashes
between PAP and UMNO might have been
frequent, forcing Singapore’s leaders to
compromise on their vision. Instead of shaping
bold and independent reforms, Singapore would
likely have been pulled into Malaysia’s broader
political struggles.
ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT

struggle ?
Economic Development:
no more billions from
our airports alone
Federal priorities: Focus on agriculture
and resource industries.
Missed opportunities: Less chance to
become a global financial hub.
Port role: Still important, but controlled
by federal decisions.
Result: Slower growth and less global
recognition
A CITY OF CULTURES
Malaysia’s Bumiputera policies would shape life in Singapore. With a Chinese
majority population, this could deepen racial divides.
Malay would likely be the main language of education and government. English
might not have become the neutral working language uniting communities.
The multicultural balance Singapore is known for today might never have
developed

are symbols of the city and our history
and favorite spots for tourists.

Citizens would carry Malaysian

Malaysia’s history.
“Singaporean” identity might fade into a
state identity.
Singapore could be seen as Malaysia’s
“big city,” not an independent state

FOOD
Singapore is a food lover’s
paradise! Hawker centers
serve famous dishes like
chicken rice, laksa, and datsun
at affordable prices , but we
might see a less diverse range
of cuisines and their fusions .
Instead , malaysian cuisine
might become more
widespread
OUR ROLE IN
THE WORLD
Singapore would not have its
own seat in the UN or ASEAN.
Its foreign policy would follow
Malaysia’s priorities.
Investors might see it as part
of Malaysia rather than a
global hub. The reputation for
independence and neutrality
would never emerge.
CLEAN AND GREEN
The city is famous for being super
clean and full of green spaces.
Even in the middle of tall buildings,
you’ll find parks, trees, and
gardens. If seperation never
happened we might have never
been able to develop our
infrastructure and systems for
cleanliness further due to poorer
economics growth
SMART CITY
Singapore is known for
using technology to solve
problems. It has great
public transport, smart
buildings , etc. However , we
might have never been able
to develop technology this
quick if we didn’t gain
independence …
