The important terms used in this study have been defined. The following terms are: • Customer- Refers to a person or organization that buys goods or services from a store or business. • Profile - Refers to the respondent's gender, age and social economic status. • Profitability- Refers to the ability of a company to use its resources to generate revenues in excess of its expenses. • Trendy- Refers to very fashionable, marked by ephemeral, superficial, or faddish appeal or taste trendy ideas about success. And up to date fashion sense. • Ukay-ukay- An ukay-ukay (/ˈuːkaɪ.uːkaɪ/ OO-ky-oo-ky) is a Philippine store where secondhand items such as clothes, bags, shoes and other accessories are sold at a cheap price. Items sold at the ukay-ukay are commonly imported from North American or European countries. Chapter 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE There’s more to ukay-ukay than the democratization of fashion. The industry that sprouted out of second hand clothes generates millions in income for sellers, and saves millions more for the people who buy from them. In a thesis titled Economics of Secondhand Retail Trade: An Analysis of the Market for ukay-ukay by Luisito Abueg, the history of the ukay-ukay, the policies that govern the underground industry, and what it all implies for the Philippines as struggling economy are painstakingly discussed and dissected. The author completed his Master of Arts in Economics from the University of the Philippines School of Economics (UPSE), Diliman, and a preview of his thesis was published in the Philippine Journal of Development .According to Abueg, the market for secondhand garments flourished from its considered capital, Baguio City, province of Benguet despite a law that prohibits the wholesale of secondhand clothes. Although Republic Act number 4653 (ratified July 1966) has been enacted, there is no clear implementation of this law(e.g., confiscation and/or burning of such imported commodities). “It is clear that people see this market as an alternative to counterpart goods burdened with soaring prices; however, with the invocation of laws that prohibits importation and sale of secondhand garments, consumers of such commodity have different reactions and suggest alternative solutions so as not to be affected negatively (in terms of the economic dimensions of their lives),” said Abueg. According to Abueg, ukay-ukay is a very affordable source of fashionable yet durable clothing material for those with relatively low incomes. “Some people would resort to buy ukay-ukay items because the latter are relatively homogenous with the brand-new garments and accessories that may be bought in relatively highclass stores and shopping malls.” He also explains that Philippine-made textiles and garments are said to be 30 percent more expensive than their counterparts in the market, due partly to the inefficient local production and technology processes as well as their relatively low productivity. Though the thesis was written in 2005, what he wrote remains valid: “The textile and garments industry still need adequate provisions for the training of as well as incentives for workers, technological efficiency, development in market production, and creation of regulating bodies,” he said. Buying and selling secondhand products has been a part of human culture for generations. The tremendous development of second-hand product consumption has piqued experts' interest during the previous 20 years, raising the topic of why buyers buy second-hand products. The expansion of the Internet has resulted in the development of many applications, which, when paired with the advent of new electronic devices, provides consumers with the ability to purchase and sell things via the Internet and mobile devices. The usage of social media and smart phones has also transformed the second-hand product market for people of all economic classes. The use of used goods is expanding on a daily basis. Because it is not a simple kind of mercantilism, it is critical to pay attention to the factors that influence the purchasing of second-hand goods. It's a way of life, a way of getting the things we need and getting rid of the things we don't need. (Alam, M. D. (2015)). CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK DEPENDENT VARIABLE Factors affecting the sales of the ukay-ukay business Individual Factors Knowledge Inspiration Learning Personality Attitude Thoughts and lifestyle Environmental Factors Culture Family Household Sales of the ukay-ukay business Other Factors Price Brand Risk Location INDEPENDENT VARIABLE The conceptual paradigm of the study. The main objective of this framework is to evaluate the factors affecting the sales of the ukay-ukay business in Calbayog City. It distinguishes relation between the Independent variable as the Factors affecting the sales of the ukay-ukay business and the dependent variable as the sales of the ukay-ukay business. The independent variable includes the Factors affecting the ukay-ukay business in terms of Individual Factors (i.e. Knowledge, Inspiration, Learning, Personality, Attitude, and Thoughts and Lifestyle), Environmental Factors (i.e. Culture, Family, and Household) and other factors that can affect the sales (i.e. Price, Brand, Risk, Location) THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK The costumer's buying behavior is influenced by two important factors: Individual Factors (e.g. knowledge, inspiration, learning, personality, attitude, thoughts and lifestyles) and Environmental Factors (e.g. culture, family, and household). Additionally there are some other factors (e.g. price, brand, risk, and location) that a costumer should considers while buying a product. For example a customer needs to buy clothes, Therefore, costumers need to consider some factors such as price, brand, risk, location and others which make this job easier for the costumer when choosing the product. Even all of the factors above (price, brand, risk, and location) have a close relationship with each other. For example, price has an influence on brand (Jacoby et al., 1971, pp. 170-171), risk has a strong relationship with the market place (Huang et al., 2004, pp.42-43), and product's brand image has an influence risk (Huang et al., 2004, p.41). STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS The ukay-ukay owners had generally moderately manifested or profitability is neither too much nor too less in their business perception in terms of any factors. Specifically, it interpreted as highly manifested which means that in terms of business perception, the ukay-ukay owners consider factors has something to do with making money or making profit which to them is essential for business success. (Holliday, Schmidheiny, and Watts, 2014). Chapter 3 METHODOLOGY This chapter reveals the methods of research to be employed by the researcher in conducting the study which includes the research design, population of the study, research instrument and its development establishing its validity and reliability, data gathering procedures, and the appropriate statistical treatment of data RESEARCH DESIGN This study made used of quantitative research method. It is a descriptive design determines the level of customer satisfaction of ukay-ukay here in Calbayog City. This design was used since it gathers information from the customers of ukay-ukay. In a survey, the researcher uses a questionnaire to gather information from the respondents to answer the research questions. A questionnaire is a very convenient way of collecting information from a large number of people within a period of time. Hence, the design of the questionnaire is of utmost importance to ensure accurate data is collected so that the results are interpretable and generalizable. RESEARCH LOCALE The researchers will conduct research among the ukay-ukay stores in Calbayog City. The respondents will be chosen at random, both male and female. The City of Calbayog is situated in the western part of the island of Samar. This research was conducted March 2022. RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS The respondent of the research will be costumers (male and female) of ukay-ukay store to find how the factors of the costumer's buying behavior will affect the sales of ukay-ukay owners. SAMPLING TECHNIQUE This research targets a wide range of consumers that have different genders and ages that are familiar with ukay-ukay. To achieve our goal in getting sentiments from wide range of people we choose to do a voluntary response sampling. It is a sample made up of population that has voluntarily participated. In this technique, it will be easier to find participants and get their personal and true opinion about the topic. RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS The study used an online questionnaire that will be answered by the respondents. A survey questionnaire is a set of questions required in a survey. The researchers included closed ended questions all about the factors affecting the sales of the ukay-ukay business in Calbayog City. There are six parts included in the survey, i.e. Profile, Brand, Price, Risk, Location, and Intension where it is asked about the different factors of buying an Ukay- ukay products. It contains questions to know what are the views of respondents in buying ukay- ukay product. DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE We allotted our time, efforts and cooperation in developing questionnaires web explicit words so as to serve to its intended respondents. The survey being implemented was done using suitable questions modified from related research and individual question formed by the researchers. In the questionnaire, most of it are constructed and are dichotomous questions which the respondents are able to responds with simple five point scale interpreted as strongly Agree to strongly disagree. After our adviser have-approved the questions to ask, questions are asked to possible 80 respondents. The participants had also allotted their valuable time answering the questions that we asked. The data gathered from this researched instrument were collected and organized according to the answers responded by the participants. Along with this questionnaires as primary data, we also made use of secondary resources which is in the form of published articles to support the results of the survey. Chapter 4 DATA ANALYSIS PLAN Using the data garnered, data analysis plan would encompass a number of procedures leading to the findings or the result of the study about the Factors Affecting the Sales on the ukay- ukay business in Calbayog City, the procedures to be observed are as follow: 1. Summarizing the numerical data. This would be done through a tally that will be based on the certain answer of the respondent in the survey questionnaires using frequency and percentage. 2. Mathematical/Statistical Interpretation of the summarized data using the weighted men and ranking. 3. Verbal Interpretation of the produced outcome will be determining the hypothesis of our topic. Is there significant Factors Affecting the Sales on the ukay- ukay business in Calbayog City, and are there no significant Factors Affecting the Sales on the ukay- ukay business in Calbayog City.
