QSO 250: 4-1 Assignment: BACCM Strategies
I. Introduction
Over the last 12 months, our streaming service has had a large increase in customer churn
This trend threatens revenue growth and therefore jeopardizes our company’s ability to keep
offering diverse and inclusive content. To address this issue effectively, this report will utilize the
Business Analysis Core Concept Model (BACCM) to figure out why customer churn is rising
and provide recommends and how to reduce the number of cancellations while ensuring that the
platform remains inclusive and appealing to a diverse audience.
analyze the issue and provide recommendations.
II. Key Concepts of the BACCM
The Business Analysis Core Concept Model (BACCM) is a framework of six connected business
analysis concepts: Change, Need, Solution, Stakeholder, Value, and Context. As Jerry Nicholas
explains in the article BACCM (Business Analysis Core Concept Model) | Guidance To Business
Analysis 6 Essential Key Concepts, these concepts are dependent and influence each other
directly “It’s hard to get a grasp of one of them without understanding others” (Nicholas, n.d). To
better understand this framework, it is important to look understand each of the six core
concepts. To begin, Change is what takes place in response to a need, and a need is the
underlying problem or opportunity that drives the project. Change is important as it ensures the
organization adapts and continues to create value and remain competitive. A need is important as
by identifying the real problem, it ensures the project will succeed and lead to improvements.
Next, the solution is the steps taken to effectively address the stakeholders’ needs. The solution is
important as it is the means of how to resolve the issues and create real change. Stakeholders
refers to the individuals or groups who influence the project, which is important as they provide
critical feedback and insight to help analysts see if their solution succeeds in fulfilling the
stakeholders expectations/guideline. Lastly, the value is the benefit delivered to these
stakeholders through the success of the project. Value is important as is it the goal and driving
factor for the project. Context regards how the environment shapes the project overall, which is
important helps put how needs the are understood, how changes are managed, and how solutions
must be designed in a broader perspective.
III. Why the BACCM Should Be Used for This Project
BACCM should be used for this project as it considers 6 concepts that serve as a structure to
efficiently approach the issue and deliver effective solutions. By considering the context, change,
stakeholders, value, solutions, and needs of our situation, the framework ensures the issue is
identified and solutions are made that align with the goals of the company. For example, by
looking at needs, the cause of churn may not simply be limited content but instead issues such as
clunky navigation, unreliable streaming, cultural shifts, or maybe a declining target market.
Ultimately, BACCM widens the scope and helps leadership to identify the root causes and create
effective solutions for guiding leadership decisions on how to reduce churn while maintaining
the platform’s commitment to inclusivity.
IV. Business Analysis Strategies Needed
Multiple business analysis strategies will be needed to address subscriber churn. Since
stakeholders shape needs, influence solutions, and define value, one key strategy is analyzing the
relationship between stakeholders and their input and influence on project’s outcomes. As
Nicholas explains, “The stakeholder is an individual (or a group) that has a relationship to and
wants to influence the change, the need, or the solution” (Nicholas, para. 22). This is important
as it ensures the real needs of executive leadership are identified while also considering their
customers. Another strategy is to clearly define and maintain a project vision. As Blash explains
in Project Planning: Vision, “The project vision is an idealistic view of the desired outcome. It
helps us stay on task and remain oriented to the business value that's driving the project in the
first place” (Blash, 0:18-0:24 ). Applying this to the project, our vision would be to reduce churn
while ensuring the platform remains inclusive and appealing to a diverse audience. All in all, this
strategy ensures all stakeholders share the same understanding of the project’s purpose and goals.
Lastly, communicating findings through effective data visualization is essential. As El-Wakeel,
Jiles, and Lawson notes, clear visuals makes data actionable and helps to prevent overwhelming
decision-makers, “Data analytics--or simply reporting information--without effective
visualization can lead to a great risk of the audience getting ‘lost in the data.’” (Wakeel, Jiles, &
Lawson, 2020). This is important as it allows leadership to quickly understand insights such as
which subscriber groups are at highest risk of churn. To conclude, these strategies help makesure
that the analysis is structured, stakeholder-driven, and clearly communicated, leading to solutions
that align with the company’s goals and values.
V. Applying the Strategies
A. Types of analysis
Descriptive analysis can summarize churn trends with averages, counts, and pivot tables.
Diagnostic analysis, such as correlations or hypothesis testing, can identify patterns like whether
churn is higher among users who watch less diverse content. Predictive analysis, including
regression, can forecast churn likelihood based on factors like streaming reliability and
navigation ease.
B. Types of data
C. Types of metrics
Key metrics include monthly churn rate, retention rate, average watch time, Net Promoter Score
(NPS), and customer satisfaction ratings. These metrics show not only the level of churn but also
subscriber engagement and satisfaction.
D. Tools needed to process the data
Excel’s Data Analysis ToolPak enables descriptive statistics, histograms, correlations, and
regression analysis, all of which are necessary for understanding churn drivers (Richardson &
Watson, 2024, p. 242). For presenting results, visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power
BI can transform raw outputs into clear dashboards for leadership.
To apply these strategies, the project will require different forms of analysis, specific data,
relevant metrics, and the right tool
Types of analysis (descriptive to spot churn patterns, diagnostic to identify causes, predictive to
forecast future churn).

VI. Conclusion
Ultimately, BACCM keeps the analysis structured and helps by aligning with business goals,
making it an effective framework for guiding leadership decisions on how to reduce churn while
maintaining the platform’s commitment to diverse and inclusive content.
Summarize how BACCM, strategies, and analytics together provide a structured approach to
reducing churn.
How to do it:
Restate the importance of inclusivity and alignment with organizational goals.
Keep it concise and professional.
