BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
Talisay Integrated School, formerly known as Talisay Elementary School, was
established on 1941. It is situated in the center of the barangay/barrio, near the
coastline, providing easy access for students and community members.
Talisay Integrated School’s mission is to ensure every Filipino has access to
quality, equitable, and culture-based education in a safe environment. It empowers
teachers, engage families and communities, and strive for lifelong learning. Its vision is
to cultivate Filipinos who love their country and contribute to nation-building and is
committed to continuous improvement to better serve our stakeholders.
The school is located in Barangay Talisay in the Municipality of Daanbantayan,
Cebu, at approximately 11.2714° N latitude and 124.0537° E longitude, with an
elevation of about 10.5 meters (34.4 feet) above mean sea level. The campus
encompasses a land area of 5,074.53 square meters, which was generously donated by
Mr. Benito Broñola specifically for educational purposes. The location features a
relatively flat terrain, making it accessible and conducive for various school activities,
while its proximity to local communities enhances engagement and support for the
educational mission.
The flat terrain of the school’s location supports the development of outdoor
learning spaces and recreational areas, benefiting students, teachers, and
stakeholders. These spaces provide opportunities for physical activities, environmental
education, and social interactions, fostering holistic development. The accessibility of
these areas encourages community involvement through events and gatherings,
strengthening relationships among students, educators, and families. This collaborative
atmosphere enhances the overall educational experience, promoting a sense of
ownership and pride in the school’s environment.
The land, covering 5,074.53 square meters, was generously donated by Mr.
Benito Broñola to the local government of Daanbantayan, Cebu, specifically for
educational purposes, marking a significant commitment to the community’s future.
The school is conveniently situated along the barangay road, just a short
distance from the road’s edge, ensuring easy access for students and community
members. It is located 8 kilometers from the town center and approximately 2 kilometers
from the nearest national high schools in Barangay Tominjao and Barangay Maya,
making it an accessible educational option for local families.
Throughout its early years, Talisay Elementary School played a pivotal role in the
local community, nurturing generations of students. However, in 2013, the school faced
a significant challenge when Typhoon Yolanda struck, causing extensive damage to its
facilities. Many classrooms were destroyed, leaving the school in urgent need of
reconstruction. In the years following the disaster, the school undertook a rebuilding
effort, prioritizing the construction of new classrooms to replace those lost in the storm.
This reconstruction marked a critical turning point for the institution, as it aimed to
enhance the learning environment for its students.
After nearly five years of recovery and growth, the school was officially converted
into Talisay Integrated School in the 2018-2019 academic year. This transformation
allowed for the integration of junior high school programs, expanding the educational
opportunities available to students in the area. The school now features a total of 23
classrooms, with 17 designated for general elementary education and 6 dedicated to
junior high school students. The school is well-equipped to support a diverse student
population in a nurturing and supportive learning environment.
Today, Talisay Integrated School stands as a resilient educational institution,
committed to providing quality education to its students despite the challenges it has
faced. The school continues to serve as a cornerstone of the community, offering a
comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for their future endeavors. With its
strategic location and dedicated staff, Talisay Integrated School plays a crucial role in
shaping the educational landscape of the community.
