General A. The Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) with Illustrated Parts List (IPL) has been prepared to give shop maintenance procedures for components made by The Boeing Company, Long Beach, California. Changes will be made to each CMM when necessary, and revisions will be sent as required. Each revision will include a Highlights page with the airplane model effectivity, revision number, publication date, and highlights of each change. Information not included in the CMM can be found in the Maintenance Manual, Structural Repair Manual, Nondestructive Testing Manual, Tool and Equipment Lists, Illustrated Parts Catalog, and Wiring Diagram Manual. This publication complies with the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) Specification No. 100. 2. Measurement Conversion A. When weights, dimensions, pressure, or torque values are changed to metric equivalents, they are shown in parentheses after the English units. 3. Standard Practices A. Procedures for standard practices such as nondestructive testing, stripping, plating, refinishing, shotpeening, etc., are in ATA Chapter 20. When necessary, each CMM will refer to the applicable location in Chapter 20 for instructions. 4. Use of the Manual A. Each CMM contains tests or checks that should be done to find the condition or malfunction of the unit, and the level of maintenance necessary to return it to a serviceable condition. If overhaul is required, use Disassembly and Assembly instructions to remove and install parts to the level necessary. B. Job set-up information is located at the front of major sections of each CMM, as applicable. Job set-up information can include the charts that follow: • References • Tools/Equipment* • Consumable Materials** NOTE: *Equivalent substitutes are permitted for the listed tools and equipment. Tools with a part number “TE” followed by characters in ATA chapter-section-subject format (TEXX-XX-XX) are detailed in the applicable Tool and Equipment Lists. The tool reference numbers are used to identify if a tool is a standard tool (STD-XXXX), a commercial tool (COM-XXXX), or a special tool (SPL-XXXX). This reference number is also used to distinguish between tools with similar names in the same procedure. These reference numbers are for use in the documentation only. They are not to be used for ordering tools. NOTE: **Equivalent substitutes are permitted for the listed consumable materials. The consumable material reference numbers are used to distinguish between materials with similar names in the same procedure. These reference numbers are for use in the documentation only. Use the specification number, and not the reference number, for ordering consumable materials. 71-10-13 INTRODUCTION Page 1 Sep 15/2015 ECCN 9E991 BOEING PROPRIETARY - Copyright © Unpublished Work - See title page for details 5930640 COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL C. This CMM may include references to other manuals for additional overhaul or maintenance procedures. When another Boeing Company CMM, OHM, or SOPM is referenced, make sure to use the correct manual for the application. In some cases, there are two Boeing Company manuals with the same ATA number: one for Boeing Heritage products (associated with CAGE Code 81205), the other for Boeing Long Beach products (associated with CAGE Code 88277). D. Every part in the IPL is assigned an item number. The item numbers in the IPL correspond to those in the CMM text. Items that are not illustrated in the IPL are excluded from the CMM text. Left-side parts and assemblies are usually illustrated as typical, while right-side parts and assemblies are not illustrated if they are a reverse image of the left side. Unless otherwise noted, all instructions for the left-side parts and assemblies also apply to the non-illustrated, right-side parts and assemblies. E. If a vendor component that can be repaired is in the Disassembly, Repair, or Testing and Fault Isolation sections, the CMM will refer to the applicable vendor manual (if available) for maintenance instructions. 5. Measurement Abbreviations A. The following abbreviations may be used in this manual: C centigrade dia diameter F fahrenheit ft foot gal. gallon Hg mercury hz hertz ID inside diameter in. inch kg kilogram kPa kilopascals kpsi thousand pounds per square inch l liter lb pound max maximum mBar millibar min minute, minimum mm millimeter Nm newton meters no. number OD outside diameter pH hydrogen-ion concentration psi pounds per square inch scc standard cubic centimeter vac volts, alternating current vdc volts, direct current 71-10-13 INTRODUCTION Page 2 Sep 15/2015 ECCN 9E991 BOEING PROPRIETARY - Copyright © Unpublished Work - See title page for details 5930640 COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL 6.
