For the question if students ever long for people to know who they are, I believe that students
and all humans do long for people to know who they really are. They all want to belong and find
place and people who can understand them.
The problem is that there are many different reasons why students block others from knowing
them better. One thing is that they have the mindset that they have to “fit in” with society,
which involves acting a certain way or being careful with what they say. Also, what stops them
is the feeling that they won’t be accepted or understood by others. Maybe they believe that no
one will care about them or they feel invisible to others around them. This type of thinking can
lead to the student putting on a persona, lying to themselves about who they are thinking that
people will like them better this way. Lastly, the fear of showing people who they really are due
to being judged by them is what stops people from expressing to others who they really are.
Though students do feel this way, one way to help with these problems is by having a strong
relationship with God. By having a relationship with God, and knowing God will show us who he
is by being with us, God will be there to help and guide you through our pains and trouble so
we can become our true selves and not be afraid to be ourselves to everyone
The first media that I chose was a song from the musical, Dear Evan Hansen, called “Waving
Through A Window”. The musical is basically about the character Evan Hansen, who has a social
anxiety disorder, trying to figure out how to fit in with the other students at his school.

This song portrays the struggle that students/teenagers such as Evan goes through to belong.
In the first few lines “I learned to slam on the brakes…. Before I make a mistake, before I lead
with the worst of me”, the lyrics shows how Evan is afraid of being himself since if he makes a
mistake, people will judge him, which is what students think as well. They want to act in a
certain way, so people won’t judge them. Also, the lyrics “Step out step out of the sun if you
keep keeping getting burned”. The sun represents social interactions while getting burned
means being criticized. Evan stays away from socializing with people, avoids interactions to
protect himself if he thinks he is being criticized. This action can be seen with students as well
due to the anxiety of persecution. Lastly, the lines “On the outside always looking in will I
always be more than I have always been, so I am tap tap taping on the glass, I am waving
through a window. Once again, Evan says how he doesn’t fit in with society and the glass of the
window allude to him feeling/being trapped, like he is isolated from society and no matter if he
is tapping or waving through the window no one will pay attention to him

READ QUOTES AND SAY WHO THEY ARE
Both quotations talk about the things that stops people from being their true self. Bruce Lee's
quote states how people think that their personality, the way that they act, and talk isn't good
enough or too "different" so they don't show any of it and try to replicate another personality
that is supposed to be “successful” or perfect. They allow themselves to live in a lie and the
consequence is that they aren't true to themselves and to their friends
Eleanor Roosevelt's quote states how if we knew that people around us don't think about
everything that we do, we wouldn't be worrying about it. People are afraid or concerned about
being judged for just being themselves and think that we have to change who we are so others
won't judge us. This isn't necessary since it doesn't matter about what others think, we need to
live life how we want and be who we are
Mount Sinai and the Ten Commandments
In our society, there are many different examples of covenants. Few of the larger covenants are
marriage, friendships, baptism, employment contrasts, government deals, and sport team
players. Smaller covenants can include a student and teacher, and a neighbour to another
neighbour such as mowing the lawn or shoveling the driveway for elderly man/women. A
covenant is an agreement between two parties and some rules include protecting the covenant
from breaking, being loyal, respectful, and being punctual to that specific covenant. For the
question “Do our culture promote or discourage living out the call to love our neighbour”, I
believe that through the special relationships/covenants, we are encouraged to love our
neighbour. We have to show care and help our neighbour whether it is asking of us to do or
not. All humans should follow this calling and many people do, such as this twelve year old girl
in the media that I chose.
SHOW VIDEO
As seen in this short video, a 12-year-old girl decided to give back to society and follow her
calling by giving gifts to homeless people that were around her neighbour last Christmas. This
was something that came from her love/care for others and it displays the covenant between
one human to another human. She wasn't asked or told to do this kind act for the homeless and
through this covenant, she is expressing her desire to help out the community when its needed.
The video is just one example of a covenant and what we as humans can do to show our care
for our neighbour.
