Abstract:
In this lab, we will look at the characteristics of a simple diode circuit in order to see
how a diode operates in different cases. We will be building a circuit in which we supply 5V
power to a diode connected to a 100 ohm resistor in series. We will be observing the difference
in the voltage over the diode and the resistor and analyzing for the type of bias observed.
Data:
Question 1:
Question Part (a):
The values for this circuit are 4.224 V over the resistor and 768mV over the diode.
This circuit is Forward bias because there is current flowing through the resistor
Question Part (b):
The values for this circuit are -4.219V over the resistor and -750mV over the diode.
Question 2:
Question Part (a):
The values for this circuit are -3mV over the resistor and 5.009 V over the diode.
This circuit is Reverse Bias because there is no current flowing through the
resistor
Question Part (b):
The voltage is 4.224V and forward bias vs -3mV and reverse bias. The difference is
observed because of the polarity of the diode being forward and reversed in the circuit.

Threshold from curve is 600mV at 5mA.
Conclusion:
In this lab, we were able to observe the different properties of a diode. We were able to
observe the reverse Bias region and the Forward bias region. We also were able to generate an
IV curve in which we could determine the threshold voltage of this particular diode. This lab
was in turn a success.
