Mid-term Exercise
Case Study – Launching a New Online Sales Channel in the Company Corporate Website
Background
In response to evolving consumer behavior and increased demand for convenient, digital
shopping experiences, your company has decided to launch a new online sales channel
integrated into its corporate website. This new channel will allow customers to browse, customize,
and purchase the company’s insurance products directly through the website, with seamless
navigation, real-time support, and secure transactions.
The initiative is expected to modernize the company’s sales approach, improve customer
engagement, and drive revenue growth through a more direct and controlled digital platform.
Project Goals
The objective is to successfully design, develop, and launch this new online sales channel on the
company’s existing website, ensuring it is user-friendly, secure, and optimized for performance
and customer satisfaction. The platform should also support integration with other corporate
systems (e.g., CRM, inventory, customer support) and facilitate data analytics for performance
tracking.
Key Considerations
1. Target Audience: The online channel must cater to both existing customers and new
prospects, with a focus on digitally engaged users aged 25-50 who prefer to transact online.
2. User Experience & Design: The platform must offer intuitive navigation, responsive design for
all devices, secure payment options, and a smooth checkout process.
3. Compliance & Security: Ensure that the platform complies with data protection laws, ecommerce regulations, and cybersecurity best practices.
Student Task:
As part of this project, you will be assigned to one of the key departments within the company.

These departments correspond to 10 groups, from which you will make your selection.
Your task is to imagine that you are a member of your assigned department. Each department
has unique responsibilities in supporting the launch of the new sales channel. You are expected
to think strategically, technically, and creatively about how your department will contribute to the
planning, development, and execution of this online sales initiative.
In addition to outlining your department’s key contributions, you are also required to develop a
risk management program. This should identify potential risks specific to your department and
those that may impact the broader organization. Your risk management plan must include a
detailed analysis of each step in the risk management process.
Report Guidelines
Your report should be a minimum of 10 pages (A4) and a maximum of 15 pages, covering the
following topics:
Item 1: Overall project evaluation and key performance indicators to measure the project's
success from your department's perspective.
Item 2: A list and description of the specific tasks your department needs to deliver to
support the project.
Item 3: A comprehensive risk management program, including a detailed analysis of each
step in the risk management process for the task list in Item 2.
Item 4: A list of the top five (5) risks related to the company’s overall risk management
program for this online sales channel launch (these can include risks from other
departments as well), with a justification of why each risk is considered critical.
