My First Time Making Ceviche
Recently, I learned how to make ceviche, and it turned out to be one of the best cooking
experiences I’ve ever had. To begin with, I had always eaten ceviche at restaurants, especially
when I visited the coast, but I had never tried preparing it myself. I thought it would be difficult,
but it was actually simple and very enjoyable.
First, I prepared the ingredients. I needed fresh fish, lime juice, onions, chili peppers, and cilantro.
At the same time, I boiled a few pieces of sweet potato and corn, because they are the perfect
side dishes for ceviche. Having everything ready on the table made me feel more organized.
Next, I cut the fish into small cubes and placed them in a large bowl. After that, I squeezed several
limes to cover the fish completely. The next step is to add a little salt and mix everything gently. I
noticed that the lime juice started “cooking” the fish almost immediately, changing its color to a
soft white.
While the fish was marinating, I prepared the other flavors. I sliced the red onions into thin strips
and washed them with water to make the taste less strong. Then I chopped the chili peppers and
cilantro. After that, I mixed them into the bowl with the fish. At the same time, I gave it a quick
taste to check if it needed more salt or lime.
Last but not least, I served the ceviche on a plate with the sweet potato and corn on the side. The
freshness of the fish, the sourness of the lime, and the spice of the chili created the perfect
balance. I couldn’t believe I had made something so delicious at home.
In the end, learning to prepare ceviche showed me that traditional dishes are not only tasty but
also fun to make. Now I feel proud of trying, and I know I’ll repeat the recipe for my
family and friends.
