Team Project (15% + Bonus): Project Planning

As an assurance of learning exercise, up to four smart learners from the same course section will work as a team in
Preparing a Project Plan consisting of the following intermediate deliverables. You will select an IT related project
(the project topic must be approved by the instructor).
Deliverable-0 (1% Bonus – Due in the First Class of Week-2)
❖ Team Rosters (names of team members, IDs, signatures, key skills, and strengths of team members)
Deliverable-1 (3% – Due in the Last Class of Week-4)
❖ Project Title [concise but sufficiently descriptive]
❖ Business Case [introduction to the project, business objectives (include discussion on how these serve at
least two Vision-2030 and two UN SDGs goals), current situation and problem/opportunity statement,
critical assumptions and constraints, analysis of options and recommendations, preliminary project
requirements, budget estimate and basic financial analysis, basic schedule estimate, potential risks, any
additional exhibits]
❖ Project Charter (use sample charter in Chapter#4 as a rough template – include project title, project
start/finish dates, budget info, project manager, project objectives, main project success criterion and
approaches to ensure success, roles & responsibilities of various key persons, sign-off with individual
commitment statement)
Deliverable-2 (4% – Due in the First Class of Week-6)
❖ Project Scope Statement (Project Summary/Justification, Project Characteristics & Requirements,
Summary of Project Deliverables – both process-related deliverables and product-related deliverables,
project success criteria)
❖ Project Baseline Work Breakdown Structure – WBS (at least 3 levels and at least 15 Work Packages) with
WBS Dictionary (containing detailed info on each WBS item)
Deliverable-3 (4% – Due in the First Class of Week-9)

Precedence Relationship for Work Packages (tabular form)
Network Diagram reflecting the precedence relationship (Activity-on-Node)
PERT / CPM applied to find the Expected Project Completion Time and the Critical Path
Calculations for finding the Schedule Risk – calculate risk of the project completion time going 7% above
the expected project completion time (i.e. T = 1.07 x TE)
Deliverable-4 (4% – Due in the Last Class of Week-14)
❖ Identify and describe at least Five Positive Risks (at least one in each category of risk – market, financial,
technology, people, structure/process)
❖ Identify and describe at least Five Negative Risks (at least one in each category of risk – market, financial,
technology, people, structure/process)
❖ Qualitative Risk Analysis (prioritization of risks based on probabilities and impact)
❖ Quantitative Risk Analysis (numerical estimation the effects of risks on project objectives)
❖ Risk Register
❖ Probability-Impact Matrix
