Task 02: Environment Week
Tree Plantation Drive
INTRODUCTION
I served as a volunteer with UMEED NGO as part of the PAN INDIA INTERNSHIP
program where the second task assigned was tree plantation under Environment Week.
This task required me to spread awareness regarding climate change to a group of friends with
the help of a presentation and then conduct a tree planting drive where the aim is to plant 10
trees at least.
IT’S IMPORTANCE
Planting trees is one of the vital ways to combat climate change. Trees have several benefits
from absorbing carbon dioxide to reducing climate change and improving air quality.These
drives are the need of the hour as they bring significant ecological benefits.
For us, the benefits are two fold , both physical and mental. Green spaces reduce stress and
improve health while participating in a planting drive builds a sense of community. In essence,
planting trees is a simple yet powerful action that creates a healthier, more sustainable
environment for everyone. It is a step towards a cleaner, sustainable future overall.
HOW I DID IT?
Firstly a comprehensive presentation was developed and shown to a group of 5 individuals on
the critical issue of climate change. The presentation was delivered which covered the causes
and impacts of climate change, specifically focusing on global warming and its effects on local
ecosystems and how trees act as carbon sinks and help in reducing this global climatic change
and global warming. The presentation also provided examples of firms trying to include
sustainability in their approach all over the world.
Following it the tree plantation drive was conducted , where plants were planted in a nearby
park. The plants were brought from a nearby nursery. All trees were located in a park where
care of the plants could be taken conveniently.
FINAL RESULT
The task led to a greater sense of environmental responsibility among all the participants
where awareness was also raised regarding climate change and global warming which are
threatening our future .
