Paraphrase “Disasters” paragraph. Remember to:
1) Turn verbs → nouns and noun phrases;
2) Eliminate “we” (avoid use of personal/possessive pronouns in academic writing) ;
3) Level up vocabulary,
4) Expand sentences, use connectors;
5) Poverty is a noun (so poverty people is INCORRECT, CORRECT: people who live in
poverty/impoverished people/poverty(n)/poor(adj/noun))
Because of their poverty, individuals contribute to disasters and, once they
occur, they exacerbate them. In the same way, when people are poor, they
abuse the land and cultivate it to the point that it becomes desert, which
contributes to the destruction of the woods. For this reason, people experience
droughts and floods more frequently. Another thing is that, due to poverty and
the growth of population, people live in more and more dangerous places, such as
slums on top of steep slopes or on the islands of the Ganges delta in Bangladesh
where there are lots of floods and cyclones. Furthermore, some of the poor can
only afford to build houses out of wood, mud and straw which stormy conditions
often cause collapse. Also, disasters then make the poor have more difficulties
in their lives.
