My Favourite Fruit: The Grapefruit
My favourite fruit in the whole world is a grapefruit. It is a big, round ball that feels heavy and
cool in my hand.
On the outside, its skin is yellow and a little bit bumpy. But the best part is the inside! When
my mum cuts it in half for my breakfast, I see the most beautiful pink colour. It looks like a
sunny sunrise. The fruit is divided into juicy segments, just waiting to be eaten.
I like to prepare my grapefruit in a special way. First, I sprinkle a little bit of white sugar on top.
The sugar looks like tiny crystals on the pink fruit. Then, my mum puts it under the grill for a
few minutes. This is called broiling. When it comes out, the sugar has melted into a sweet,
crispy crust.
Time for the first bite! The grapefruit is still a little bit sour, but the broiled sugar makes it taste
sweet and delicious. The juicy pulp bursts in my mouth. It is the perfect mix of sour and sweet.
Eating a warm, broiled grapefruit is the best way to start my day.
The Lumpy Brown Frog
I saw a fascinating creature by the pond today: a big, lumpy brown frog. He was sitting very
still on a muddy bank. His skin wasn't smooth like a leaf; it was covered in little bumps and
lumps. Some people call these warts, but they help him hide in the dirt and look like a bumpy
rock. His colour is perfect for hiding. The muddy brown and green patches help him blend in
with the mud and plants so that predators cannot see him.
I wondered where a frog like this lives. I know they need to be near water. This is his home. The
pond is where he lays his eggs, which hatch into tadpoles. He can also live in damp, cool places
in the garden, like under a big, shady log.
I also thought about what he eats. He has a long, sticky tongue that shoots out like lightning!
He probably eats lots of bugs, like flies, mosquitoes, and slugs. He is very helpful to gardeners
because he eats pests.
He might look a little lumpy and brown, but I think he is a wonderful and helpful animal.
