11
BLOCKCHAIN
An increasing list of records that are linked using
cryptography(Wikipedia).
Eliminates “autocracy” and “Single point failure”.
Confirms the ‘integrity’ of the network.
Secures the “truth” and eliminating the “trust”
requirement.

Dr. Rubaiyat Islam
12
BLOCKCHAIN
Abstract answer: a blockchain provides
• coordination between many parties,
• when there is no single trusted party
if trusted party exists ⇒ no need for a blockchain

39
The similarities of public and private blockchain
Both are decentralized peer-to-peer
networks,
Has append-only ledger of digitally
signed transactions.
Both maintain the replicas in sync
through a protocol referred to as
consensus.
Both provide certain guarantees on
the immutability of the ledger,
even when some participants are
faulty or malicious.

Important Topics and Terms :
ASIC – Application Specific Integrated Circuit well known as GPU that
performs the hash function at a high rate.
Asymmetric Encryption: A type of encryption that users public and private
keys.
Block Reward – The amount of bitcoin paid to the miner.
Cryptocurrency,- A decentralized digital currency that utilizes cryptography
to secure transaction.
Digital Signature- In bitcoin system sender cypher a message by hashing
and asymmetric cryptography.
Double Spending- A scam in which two transaction with same digital
signature are broadcast and one of which pays the legitimate recipient.
While the other back to that money back to the sender. Fiat Currency- Paper
based currency.
Hash - Comprised of a ciphered fixed length message converted from a
plane message of any length.
Miner- Collects transaction and donate computation power to validate each
block.
Wallet- Stores addresses and key pairs for all transactions.
