MAS 201 ABCD (25.201 3:1:3) Differential Equations and applications
Fall 2025
Course Objectives: This course aims to provide some opportunities to learn about basics the theory of differential
equations and their applications. The topics we treat include first-order differential equations, higher order linear
ordinary differential equations and their applications, the Laplace transform, series solutions, systems of linear ODEs
and their stability, for instance.
Lectures and Recitations: There are four sections (A ~ D) and two professors:
Lectures for Sections AB: TTh 10:30 ~ 11:45 by Prof. Jinhyun PARK (jinhyunp@kaist.ac.kr )

Course website: we will have our KLMS website. When you register, you will be automatically enrolled by the system.
Textbook : We will use Advanced Engineering Mathematics, 7th Edition, by Dennis G. Zill.
We plan to cover most of Chaters 1 ~ 5, 10 and 11, although we may omit some relatively less important topics.
Details can be seen in the schedule.
Homework: We do not assign homework problems and we will not collect them. However, we will give a list of
suggested problems that you can solve yourself. During the Recitation sessions, you will have some quick quizzes that
will test your understanding.
Grading policy:
1. Midterm 200
2. Final 200
3. Recitation + Quiz 50
4. Class attendance 50
Total : 500
The final grades will be given in letters: A+, A0, A-, … , D+, D0, D-, F.
Regarding absence: The official rules of KAIST mandates that if you miss more than 1/3 of the lectures, then you may
not be able to take the final exam. Please be careful.
Honor code: Cheating in any part of the course may result in really serious consequences, probably not limited to
