Structures in Humans and Animals
Passage 1: Human Body Structures
Humans have many body parts that help us live
and grow. Our arms and legs help us move, reach
for things, and run. Our eyes let us see the world,
and our ears let us hear sounds around us. Our
mouth and teeth help us eat and chew food,
giving us energy. Our skin protects our body and
keeps germs out.
Each body part has a special job. For example, our
legs help us walk to school, run to catch a ball,
and climb stairs. Our eyes help us read, watch a
movie, or see a friend waving. Every part of our
body helps us survive, learn, and enjoy life.
Passage 2: Animal Body Structures
Animals also have body parts that help them
survive. A dog’s legs help it run fast to catch a
ball or escape danger. A bird’s wings help it fly to
find food or avoid predators. Animals use their
eyes to see, ears to hear, and mouths, teeth, or
beaks to eat food. Fur, feathers, or scales protect
animals from the weather and keep them safe
from germs.
Each structure helps the animal live. A fish uses
its fins to swim in water. A cat uses its claws to
climb and catch food. Animals, like humans,
depend on their body parts to find food, stay safe,
and grow.
