“Poverty Knows No Age”
Poverty knows no age is an ad designed by Canva as a public awareness template. Canva
is known more publishing various stand-out ads, one of which is this “Poverty knows no age”
advertisement. The better future foundation is incorporated into this ad as a way of helping those
children in need to overcome poverty. This foundation was created to reward children who face
challenges and provide financial and meaningful assistance for their bright future. The
representation of a young child as the cover of the ad speaks for itself, it gives the idea of poverty
among children. The child is presented as sad and dirty in a way, with a caption that reads, “ 1 in
30 kids are suffering from poverty in the US alone”. This advertisement is intended to inform
people about all those kids out there suffering from poverty. The anticipated audience appears to
be adults who have a soft spot for children and/or middle/upper-class individuals who are willing
to donate to these causes.
The Canva designers chose to address a significant issue in the US by using a sensitive
image alluding to many parents and family-oriented individuals. This ad portrays the use of
ethos, pathos, and logos in order to allude to its audience and spread awareness about poverty.
The designers’ choice of color, image, and wording allows all three of these rhetorical appeals to
be incorporated into the message. It targets a parent’s point of view, lifestyle, and the
relationship they may have with a child. Many people value caring for a child and providing the
best of everything possible, which is something that this ad challenges.

“Poverty Knows No Age” child advertisement
Ethos is shown in this “Poverty knows no age” advertisement by including a meaningful
foundation and credible information on the topic. The better future foundation is a well-known
foundation organized to help children in need, which is the whole idea of the ad. The designer
even provides the website to the foundation to validate his/her credibility. Towards the bottom of
the ad, we can find a fact about children’s poverty in the US, which leads us to believe that the
creator is well-informed on the situation, making things much more believable. The image of a
child implies credibility because of his/her innocence and the need to help those young
individuals.
Pathos appears in this ad through the selection of the sensitive image and the structure of
the text. The child appears to be sad and dirty and he/she is made the center of attention along
with big white letters that scream poverty. By including these two elements in the ad, the
audience’s emotions are targeted because of their sensitivity to children. Mostly everyone if not
everyone, has a soft spot for children, anytime they are in danger or something is happening,
there is a natural human reaction to help. The better future foundation text is placed in smaller

font at the top left corner so that it does not intervene with the main image of the child, the
“Poverty knows no age” words are enlarged to catch the audience’s attention and direct them to
the child’s face. The colors used are dark which represents evil, blood, warfare, danger, etc. They
emphasize the fact that children are in danger which only allows the audience to get in touch
with their emotions even more.
The third rhetorical appeal portrayed in this ad is logos. Logos is shown through the
selection of the topic and the statistics provided. The main idea of this advertisement is children
suffering from poverty, which is a well-known topic that most of us are partly aware of. By
selecting a known topic the creator ensures logic. At the bottom of the ad, there is a statistic, “ 1
in 30 kids are suffering from poverty in the US alone,” which allows the audience to become
closely informed on this issue and persuade them to help in any way possible.
Overall, this ad was created to connect to the audience and spread awareness about
children in poverty. It communicates its message effectively through its choice of image, color,
and text. Ethos, pathos, and logos are incorporated into the ad to help communicate the message
and engage the audience. The ad provides a well understanding of the topic and the colors
chosen, intensify the meaning of the issue. It also provides information on a foundation where
people can contribute to this issue and make a change. This ad consists of various detailed
aspects that allow it to be credible and touching to the audience.
