• CDC says 1 in 6 Americans get food poisoning
each year (48 Million cases annually)
• FDA recommends 4-step plan to help combat this:
1. Wash hands before and after preparing food and
clean countertops frequently
2. Separate raw meats and avoid reusing
plates/utensils on produce
3. Cook foods to proper temperatures, food
thermometers are best
4. Chill perishables within 2 hours of cooking
• Clean tables/eating surfaces to avoid bacteria
and dirt building up
• Avoid storing leftovers in fridge for too long
and follow expiration dates
Common Do’s and Don'ts of Food
Safety
• Do:
• Wash produce with running water to remove any
dirt, pesticides, or bacteria
• Refrigerate food within 2 hours of grocery
shopping
• Keep raw meat separate from produce in shopping
bags and at home
• DONT:
• Avoid washing raw meat, poultry, or seafood – can
spread bacteria
• Never use soap or detergent on foods
