Some artists shock the world. Others change music forever. An icon is someone who is symbolic
in their genre or era. Metallica perfectly embodies this through their hardcore approach to heavy
metal. Metallica broke metal into the mainstream in the 80s, proving that extreme music could
achieve massive success if artistically creative. Metallica’s influence has been monumental, as
even decades after their formation, they serve as the inspiration for countless bands in the metal
world.

A legend, however, is an artist or band whose work creates a lasting impact that shapes
generations of musicians and listeners long after their time. Nirvana exemplifies this through
their role as one of the most influential bands of all time. The band exploded onto the scene in
the late 1990s with tracks like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Lithium”, which introduced
audiences to angsty but unique music. Their cultural impact transformed fashion, and the very
definition of what rock stardom could look like.
