Course Description
Psychology 305 overviews the basic concepts in statistics as applied to
psychological research. This class will provide you with an understanding of
how statistics are used to analyze data in psychology.
The prerequisite for this course is PSYC 204. Credit is not given for PSYC
305 toward a BA/BSc in Psychology if you have taken STAT 100 and STAT
200 or if you have taken STAT 160. Please check with the Psychology
Department if this applies to you. This course (or its equivalent) is required for
all psychology majors and is a prerequisite to taking PSYC 405.
This course meets in our classroom and on ZOOM (link on URCourses) on
WEDNESDAYS. If you attend by ZOOM, be prepared to turn on your
camera. Lectures are posted on URCourses for you to review and class time
is spent reviewing assignments and answering lecture questions.
The midterm exams are scheduled during class time and take place in our
classroom (or arrangements made to write the midterms at an off-campus site).
PLEASE NOTE ONE HALF OF OUR SECOND MIDTERM EXAM IS
ON A MONDAY. The final exam is scheduled by the Registrar's Office to
take place in our classroom (or arrangements made to write the final exam at
an off-campus site). You must be available to write the midterm exams
and final exam when scheduled.
“Students who reside in a location that precludes them from writing a
final exam in person at the scheduled exam location must apply to
write the exam at an alternate location. Students approved for an
alternate exam location will be responsible to arrange for an approved
invigilator, confirm the alternate location for the exam, pay for any
additional costs that are incurred for exam invigilation, and ensure
that the invigilator can provide the necessary environment to invigilate
an online exam when required. More information, including the
application form, is available on the Registrar’s Office webpage.

Applications must be received before the 50% refund deadline for

You need Appendix B from the textbook --- the textbook is available on
reserve at the University of Regina Main Library.

You will need a calculator capable of doing square roots.

Course lectures take the form of narrated Powerpoint slides available on
URCourses. You can view the Powerpoint slides in “SLIDE SHOW” (“from
current slide” or “from beginning”) or by clicking on the speaker icon at the
bottom right corner of each slide. The slides have SOUND!
All assignments can be found on URCourses. Assignments can be submitted
as PDF files through Assignment portals on URCourses. Assignments are due
at 11:59 PM on the assigned day. Two assignments can be missed without
penalty --- for that reason please do not ask for extensions for assignments or
permission to submit late assignments.
Powerpoint slides, assignments, and exams are the property of your professor
and are not to be posted or distributed.
Method of Evaluation
In order to assess your progress and understanding of course materials, there
will be two midterm exams, a final exam, and the assignments. The midterm
and final exam will include multiple choice and computational questions. The
final exam is cumulative.

Midterm Exam I (October 1st) --- 25%
Midterm Exam II (November 3rd [MONDAY] and November 5th) --- 25%
Final Exam (December 22nd 9:00 AM to noon) --- 40%
Assignments --- 10%
A missed midterm exam will be scheduled only when appropriate
documentation is provided. A missed final exam requires you to seek a
deferment from your Faculty or College (e.g., Arts, Science, Campion). Please
do not request changes to the weightings of the exams or extra projects to
substitute for exam marks.
Disability Policy: Any special-needs students requiring accommodations
must first contact the Coordinator of the Centre for Student Accessibility formerly the Disability Resource Office (DRO) at 306-585-4631 - and then
contact the course instructor. A statement of the Faculty of Art’s policies and
procedures for special needs students can be obtained from Arts Student
Services Office. Please contact your professor after letters are sent from
the DRO to make arrangements.
Academic Dishonesty: You are responsible for knowing all of the formal
definitions of plagiarism, cheating and other forms of Academic Misconduct,
as specified in section 5.13.2 of the Undergraduate Calendar. You will not be
able to excuse academic misconduct by arguing that you didn't know it was
misconduct. If you are unsure, check with your instructor beforehand. When
you hand in assignments, it will be assumed that you handed in the version
you intended to hand in. We will not under any circumstances accept the
excuse that you 'accidentally’ handed in the wrong file. The Faculty of Arts
will vigorously pursue all suspected cases of academic misconduct; the
penalties for it include indefinite expulsion from the University.
Students are prohibited from using generative artificial intelligence text
generation software, such as ChatGPT, on any assignments or exams for this
course. Students are expected to complete all course work without substantial
assistance from others, including automated tools. If you are in doubt as to
whether or not a particular tool may be permitted, consult your instructor.
Unauthorized use of generative AI is considered a breach of academic
integrity.
