Bruce Power Student Lead
Event Planning Proposal
Shaan Banday
Overall Objectives as a Bruce
Power Student Lead
• Plan fun and engaging social events to bring
all the around 90 Bruce Power co-op
students together
• Plan career-oriented professional events
with specific Bruce Power leadership
• Plan networking events with the Bruce
NAYGN Chapter
• Act as a mentor to other newer Bruce Power
co-op students.
Event 1: Student Volleyball Tournament
and Pizza Night
Concept: Classical volleyball tournament with teams
of 4-6. Students will be invited, and they will be
asked to self-identify as beginner, intermediate, or
pro and teams will be made by evenly splitting
people
Time and Location: Weekday evening (6:00 PM to
8:30 PM) at the Port Elgin Boston Pizza Volleyball
Courts
Refreshments: Pizza and Drinks provided by Boston
Pizza
Event 1: Student Volleyball Tournament
and Pizza Night
Who will be involved: Bruce Power co-op students and HR team
How I would facilitate this event: Book courts 2 weeks prior, send out invites
via email 2 weeks before and then another reminder 1 week before. Track
students who RSVP. Evenly distribute teams the day before the event
How to get Students to attend: Free food. Tournament winners get Bruce
Power swag and/or gift cards
Budget: around $350
Event 2: Operations/NOIT Pipeline Panel
Concept: A panel discussion featuring senior leaders from Operations. A
similar event was held last year on the engineering pipeline, but this would
be on the NOIT pipeline focusing on the career trajectory possibilities in
Operations
Time and Location: Weekday (12:00 PM to 1:30 PM) at the B10 auditorium
Refreshments: Coffee and donuts
Who will be involved: Bruce Power co-op students, HR team, and
Operations Senior Leadership
Event 2: Operations/NOIT Pipeline Panel
How I would facilitate this event: Act as a moderator for the event by
asking prepared engaging questions to steer the conversation in the right
direction. Afterwards, invite students to ask questions to the panelists
How to get Students to attend: Free food. Stress the value of direct insight
from top operations leadership who would give valuable career planning
advice
Budget: around $100
Event 3: Guided Group Discussions with NAYGN
Concept: Somewhat like the one-on-one speed mentoring held by NAYGN for
students in the past, but more structured. Students sit in small groups (5–6 people)
with 1–2 NAYGN professionals at each table. Every 15–20 minutes, the groups of
students would rotate to a new table. Pre-set question cards on each table to
guide discussion (e.g., “What’s the best way to stand out as a new grad?”)
Time and Location: Could be weekday midday (12:00 PM to 1:30 PM) at the B10
auditorium or weekday evening (6:00 – 7:30 PM) somewhere else
Refreshments: Coffee and donuts if midday, pizza if evening
Who will be involved: Bruce Power co-op students, HR team, Bruce NAYGN
chapter, Bruce Power Senior leadership
Event 3: Guided Group Discussions with NAYGN
How I would facilitate this event: Help with planning and sending out invites.
Help write questions and set up the event
How to get Students to attend: Free food. Stress the value of direct networking
with senior Bruce Power leadership
Budget: around $100 if midday, $200 if evening
