Abstract
Have you ever thought about whether color can change how fast ice
melts? In this experiment, we tested that idea by putting ice cubes
under black, purple, and white paper in the sun. We found that the ice
under the black paper melted the fastest. This happened because
black absorbs more sunlight and gets hotter, which melts the ice more
quickly. On the other hand, white reflects the sunlight, so the ice stays
cooler and dissolves more slowly. This experiment shows how
different colors can affect how much heat something takes in and how
that can change the temperature.
procedure
To test how the colors of paper affect the time it takes to melt ice
under the sun, we did this experiment. First, we folded the
construction paper into boxes and froze the water into ice. We put the
ice cube under the sun and covered it with black, purple, and white
paper boxes. Then, every five minutes, we opened the paper box and
checked what had happened inside.
