PRECLUDING DEVELOPING NATIONS FROM
REACHING SDG 4 GOALS
SDG 4 is an important objective that must be met for any
country to improve its quality of life and promote its

SIGNIFICANT OBSTACLES THAT PREVENT NIGERIA
FROM ACCOMPLISHING THIS OBJECTIVE
Poor school infrastructure (Lawrence, Ihebuzor and Lawrence, 2020)
Low school enrollment and drop- out rate (Lawrence, Ihebuzor and Lawrence,
2020)
Inadequate funding (Lawrence, Ihebuzor and Lawrence, 2020)
KEY AREAS OF SDG 4 CHALLANGES
1) Children and teenagers are not at least proficient in reading and maths.

2) The majority of schools in Sub-Saharan Africa lack access to
computers, the internet, and basic drinking water facilities. (Lawrence,
Ihebuzor and Lawrence, 2020)
3) Of primary school age, 27% more females than boys do not attend
school. (Lawrence, Ihebuzor and Lawrence, 2020)
PROGRESS
Between 2015 an d2021 the percentage of people who completed their
elementary, middle, and upper secondary education increased (2023)
Primary: from 85 to 87% (2023)
Lower secondary: 74 to 77% (2023)
Upper secondary: 54 to 58% (2023)
