Science Bookwork Policy
1. You will be required to have a science exercise book just for science.
2. Date all work at the beginning of each lesson.
3. Include a margin on the left hand side of the page
4. Each activity must have an underlined heading.
5. All handouts should be pasted in.
6. All work must be completed and up to date.
7. Correct / mark all work and clearly make any necessary changes in a
different coloured pen.
8. Take care with spelling, grammar and punctuation at all times.
9. Work should be kept neat and tidy. Writing should be legible.
Laboratory Expectations
1. Enter the laboratory only if the teacher is present and store bags in
the shelves around the room.
2. Wear the correct footwear – full leather covered shoes.
3. Only the teacher should enter the preparation room.
4. Keep food and drink in school bags as there is to be no eating or
drinking in the lab.
5. Long hair should be tied back
6. Before an experiment, ensure the work area is clear of clutter, read
the procedure carefully, ask questions to help understanding and
most importantly follow teacher instructions.
7. Handle chemicals with care. Smell these only when directed by the
teacher.
8. Report all accidents and breakages to the teacher immediately.
9. When directed, pour fluids down the sink and flush with water. Place
solids in the waste bin.
10. After an experiment, clean, check and return all equipment and
materials to the teacher’s bench. Clean and dry the work area.
11. Know the location and use of the emergency shower, eye washes,
sand buckets and fire blankets.
12. Always wash your hands before leaving the Science laboratory if
you have done an experiment.
