*Questions represent a sampling of test questions pulled from a variety of study resources, not actual
test questions.
Part 1
Peter is applying to be an employee for Philly Shipyard. Peter is 17 and turning 18 in 3 weeks. In order to
work at the Shipyard, you must be 18 years of age. Peter has no prior welding experience or knowledge,
but knows about the apprentice program which offers people a chance to learn how to weld and give
them the necessary hand on skills to learn trade.
The apprentice program will open up in 2 weeks and people will have 4 weeks to be able to sign up for
the program. During the program Peter will spend 12 weeks in production 12 weeks in the training
academy and the remaining 132 weeks are spent in production working with their new acquired skills. In
total Peter will spend 3 years in the program learning skills and working full time as a Philly Shipyard
employee. Peter will start out at $22.20 with an increase based on review every 6 months if he remains
in good attendance and works safely.
Peter is excited for the program and knows that once he applies he will have to take a test and then wait
1-2 weeks to receive the results in which he will find out if he will then interview. Once he passes with a
70% or higher, not a 68% 69% or 40%, then will he be invited back to interview.
If he passes the interview he knows he would receive an offer and need to go through the onboarding
process which takes a day.
Peter is excited for the opportunity and still has some questions. Will he make the $22.50 an hour to
start at the end of the program? Is the program 4 or 5 years or 3? Does he get a raise for being there for
6 months right off the bat? Will he make $25.20 within a year? Can he do 8 weeks in production
instead? How can he spend less than 132 weeks in the program? Can he do the program in 120 weeks
