CE 2210 Statics
Assignment #2
Due on September 3, 2025: before midnight
This assignment and all future assignments will need to be submitted
using the “Weekly/Assignment Module” in Canvas. The assignment must
be submitted/uploaded as a pdf file to the Canvas Assignment Upload Window. You
may either scan your assignment as a pdf file or take a picture of it and save it as a pdf
file for submittal. If you choose to photograph your assignment, make sure that it is not
photographed at an angle and that it can be easily read for grading.
For all problem assignments to be submitted, be sure to follow the format described in
the syllabus. Failure to do so will result in a reduced score. The course Syllabus may
be found in Canvas in the “Syllabus, Course Coverage, and Schedule” module.
Problem 1:
Express each of the three forces as Cartesian vectors. Yeah, I’m looking for 3
separate vectors. Do not sum the vectors.
Problem 2:
Express the 900-lb force F as a Cartesian vector in terms of the unit vectors i, j, and
k. Determine the magnitude of the projection of F onto the y-axis. All coordinate
units are in inches.
Problem 3:
The turnbuckle is tightened until the tension in the cable AB equals 2.4 kN.
Determine the Cartesian vector expression for the tension T as a force acting at
point A.
Problem 4:
The magnitude of the force F is 120 lb. Find its vector representation.
Problem 5:
The length of the position vector r is 240 mm. Determine the Cartesian vector
representation of:
a) The vector r,
b) The unit vector directed from O toward A.
Problem 6:
a) Compute the angle θz between the force vector F and the z-axis.
b) Determine the Cartesian vector representation of F given that F = 240 N.
Problem 7:
Obtain the Cartesian representation for the force P, given that its magnitude is 30 lb.
(i.e. express P as: P = Pxi + Pyj + Pzk)
