Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of particles in an object, and helps to
quantify how much energy an object gives to its surroundings. For example, if two objects at
different temperatures touch, the object with the higher temperature will lose energy. The lost
energy will be transferred to the object at a lower temperature in the form of heat, raising the
temperature of the object and creating a thermal equilibrium between the two objects.
