ELECTRICAL FUNDAMENTALS – Ohm’s Law
VOLTAGE
Voltage can be defined as a difference of potential. Or the possibility of doing work. It
can also be called an electromotive force, the ability to do the work of moving electrons.
CURRENT
The flow of electrons. It occurs when there is a difference of potential- voltage- between
two charges that forces in-between charges to move. To produce it, charge must be
moved by a potential difference. Measured in Amps.
RESISTANCE
The opposition to current flow. It can either be a conductor, semiconductor, or insulator.
These terms are determined by how many free electrons are available to allow the flow
of current when a difference in potential is applied to it. Conductors are the least
resistive, having the most free electrons, allowing easy current flow- while the more
insulative it is, the more opposite.
OHM'S LAW:
If Voltage is held constant:
Current and Resistance will be inversely proportional.
V=IR/ E=IR, and so I=V/R and R=V/I.
