Interpretation of Quality Parameters in Test Certificates and
its Relevance in Cement and Concrete Performance
Session Date & Time: 28th August 2024, 3 pm to 6 pm
Speaker: Dr. Bibekananda Mohapatra
Target Audience: Technical Services Team
Objective
Participants should understand the implication of all the Quality parameters both Chemical and
Physical mentioned in the Test certificates and its relevance in cement properties and
ultimately in concrete performance. They can convince the customers with more Confidence
and Technical Justification.
About the Program:
Manufacturing Unit shall satisfy himself that cement so produced conforms to the requirements
of the respective standard specification as per BIS and if requested shall furnish the Test
certificate to the purchaser or his representative within ten days of testing of cement (Except for
28days compressive test results, which shall be furnished after completion of the Test). The
type and percentage addition of performance improver (s) shall also be included in the
certificate.
Test certificates of each product OPC, OPC 53S, PPC, PSC and Composite cement are designed
as per the statutory requirement of Bureau of Indian standards covering their Chemical
requirements, Physical requirements with the addition of Type and percentage of Performance
Improver . Date of Dispatch and week No also mentioned in the test certificate to know the
traceability of cement. Actual test results are mentioned in the Test certificate conforming to all
the requirements as per the standard and some optional requirements such as Alkali content if
requested by Customer. The supply of test certificate along with all consignments of cement
build the confidence level in the mind of the customer and third-party inspection and
certification by BIS.
In this program, we will cover the importance of all chemical and physical parameters of
cement and their relevance in both cement and concrete performance.
Programme Outline
1. IS 269: 2015 Ordinary Portland cement
Implication of Chemical and physical parameters in both cement and Concrete
performance( Setting and Hardening time, Workability , Slump and slump retention, Heat of
Hydration, Alkali aggregate reactivity ,Soundness , Shrinkage , Concrete Corrosion and
Carbonation etc)

On completion of Programme, Participants will be able to understand:
1. Relationship of chemical parameters vs Physical parameters and its relevance in
concrete application.
2. Relation between LSF and C3S, SM and Silicate phases, AM and C3A content.
3. Relationship between SO3 content vs Setting time, Hardening time and
Workability, Slump retention in concrete.
4. Relationship between NC, Water Cement ratio, workability and Concrete
strength
5. Impact of Fineness on Heat of hydration, Higher water cement ratio and on
concrete strength.
6. C3A and C3S content contributing to Higher Heat of hydration.
7. Alkali content in Clinker and cement in both OPC and PPC and its impact on
strength and Alkali aggregate reactivity.
Benefits and outcome of the training
Competency level of our technical service people will improve to deal with the Key and potential
customers.
Our Technical service people will market our products more efficiently with higher confidence
level comparing to the test certificates of our competitors.
