 To develop students’ reading skills for gist and detail using a text about spending habits.
 To practice writing by expressing opinions about spending habits and financial
decisions.

 Understand the main idea and supporting details of a short reading text.
 Use topic-related vocabulary (e.g., waste, save, invest, borrow, lend) in written form.
 Express personal opinions about spending habits in writing.

Procedure
Introduce a topic and get quick ideas. Collect a few answers.
Extract new vocabulary from the text and define them.
Students read the text quickly and do task 3B
Students read again and answer specific comprehension
questions.
Students write a short paragraph: “What would you do if you
had to stop spending money for a year”.
Give feedback on students’ writing and finish the lesson
