Heritage International School is pleased to invite your esteemed institution to participate in our
upcoming Inter-School English Public Speaking Competition. This event will be held on 16 July,
2025 as part of our Language Week celebrations.
The competition is designed to encourage language proficiency, critical thinking, and creativity
among Secondary-level students. Each school is invited to submit one participant for the English
Public Speaking category.
Attached please find the following:
The rules and regulations of the competition.
Details of the competition, including a list of topics for participants' selection.
A registration and consent form, which should be completed and sent to the designated
liaison officers before 30 April 2025.

Rules and Regulations for Participants
Secondary English Public Speaking Competition
Eligibility:
1. The competition is open to students from both international and public schools situated
in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. 2. Each school is allowed to send only one participant.
Age Group for Secondary Category:
International School: Year 10/11 (Ages 16—17)
2. Public School: Form 41/5
Speech Duration:
1. Speeches must be no less than 5 minutes and should not exceed 5 minutes 30 seconds.
Judging Criteria:
Participants are expected to be well-prepared with their material, but the use of discreet prompt
cards measuring no more than 8cm x 6cm, is allowed
Participants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Content (40%):
Clear, relevant, and well-structured arguments.
-k Depth of understanding of the topic, with the ability to present critical
insights. * The effective use of language and vocabulary Delivery (60%):
* Confidence, clarity, and articulation of speech.
* Effective use of body language, eye contact, and voice modulation.
Rules of the Competition:
1 . There will be only one round of this competition.
2. Participants are obliged to choose the topic of their speech from the attached list
3. Offensive language, gestures or inappropriate content will result in immediate
disqualification.
4. Participants must be dressed in school uniform during the competition. NO props are
allowed.
5. All participants must be accompanied by a teacher.
6. The judges' decision will be final and no further discussion will be entertained.

Awards and Recognition:
• Trophies and certificates will be awarded to the top three winners in each category.
• All participants will receive a certificate of participation to acknowledge their efforts in the
competition.

• Second Place: plaque and Certificate Third Place: Plaque and Certificate
