Introduction
Greet the learners. State the objectives.
Ask learners whether some of them worked on a computer before. If yes, what did they
do. State what you are going to do during the lesson, ask those that have never used a
computer to take a lead.
Lesson
1. Place learners in 6 groups per laptop, make sure it’s off, they should start, shutdown,
put laptop in sleep mode then restart it. Let them carefully study the keyboard in
front of them. Let them open an MS Word document Minimize the document and
guide them through the Desktop.
2. Maximize the document with them, Emphasise the specific keys that will be used
(that they must know).
3. Guide: Let learners to use specific keys and let them tell the rest of the class what
the keys do. Explain the keys as you progress.
4. Explain: The difference between Del, Backspace, Num Lock, Caps lock, Enter, Space,
arrow keys and Tab.
5. Explain how to use the touchpad correctly. Assist learners to highlight, right click
and left click.
6. Ask: Learners to click in specific areas/on menus. Use the right click button in the
open space and let them explain why you cannot use right-click all the time.
Conclusion: Conclude with a clear indication how to work with the keyboard and
mouse.
Homework: (1) Learners have to label the keyboard hand-out correctly in their
workbooks.
Important:
Monitor learners well while they work on the computers. Assist slower
learners and use pair-learning with faster learners (let them assist slower
learners).

Introduction
State the objectives.
Recap magnetic storage as an introduction. State that the storage devices to be discussed is considered
hardware and forms the storage part of the functions.
Lesson 1
1. Explain that various media use different devices to store data.
2. Explain the meaning of hard disk drive, External Storage, Optical disks, USB Flash disk (do not call it
a stick!)
3. Explain clearly differentiation between the optical drive, magnetic and solid state drive.
4. Discuss solid state drives and the durability, how they have no moving parts.
5. Ask learners to list the different solid state devices they know SD cards and card readers.
Lesson 2
6. Define: define cloud based storage as storage of data on a server over the internet.
7. Let learner lead the discussion of how they store data online and what platform they use.
8. Explain: Cloud Storage (Cloud Computing), state the advantages.
9. Define virtual storage and explain how it works and why it used
10. Describe the properties of the different storage medias
11. Differentiate between the different medias according to functionality, mobility and state
Conclusion: Conclude with a questioning session on the components inside a case of a computer,
challenge learners on measurement units, hardware and software, input, processing,
output and storage.
Homework: Learners must differentiate between SSD vs HDD
Important:
give positive feedback and have them do corrections.

Recap using the functions of computing (Input-Processing-Output-Storage) as
introduction. State that this lesson will cover devices that provide output.
Lesson
1. Ask: learners to define output devices, Teacher will define output devices as any
hardware component that will directly communicates the result of what has been
processed by the CPU to the user.
2. Ask: learners to list the different output devices they know
3. The teacher will define softcopy then give the different softcopy output devices
4. Explain the TERMS: VGA (Video Graphics Array), VDU (Visual Display Unit)
5. Differentiate between CRT and LCD Monitors.
6. Ask: learners who still has a CRT type monitor at home. What does the front (screen
area) feel like?
Conclusion: Conclude listing the output devices discussed (Monitor, Speakers,
Headset, Digital Projector and Printer. State that the projector, headset
and Printer will be discussed in detail in the next lesson.
