What problem(s) in the world would your satellite solve? What is unique or useful about your satellite? :) As a former athlete, a problem I would like to solve is how training in poor environmental conditions can cause injuries. For this problem, a satelite is the least expected solution. However, I would make a satelite that reads the various environmental conditions like humidity, air quality, temperature, etc to check wether or not the environment is optimal for training. This would allow coaches and athletes to ensure than their training is not hindered by external factors. Aditionally, this could alos be used to understand wether the environmental conditions have played a role in the athlete's performance. If I could design any satellite, I’d focus on urban growth, infrastructure health, and making cities more sustainable. Since I want to be an architect, I’m always thinking about how cities develop and how their design affects the people living there. My satellite would collect important data about things like heat in cities, traffic patterns, air quality, and how buildings and infrastructure are holding up over time. The idea is that this satellite wouldn’t just collect data—it would give us real, useful information that architects, city planners, and even governments could use to make better decisions. For example, it could track areas of the city that have urban heat islands and help planners figure out where they need more green spaces. It could also look at traffic flow to help redesign streets and neighborhoods for less congestion. Plus, it could keep an eye on the structural health of buildings, so we know when something might need repairs before it becomes a bigger issue. I would build a satellite to aid in the monitoring climate change by observing atmospheric phenomena and sending data back to Earth for scientists to analyse. Every satellite sent into space has been sent to see deep outer space or the Earth from above. However, there are no known satellites that track the other satellites FROM space. Although we have many trackers on earth, there are none in space. What’s unique about my satellite is that it would be able to track and see other satellites from space. It will be a little bit like EMISAT. While EMISAT can locate other satellites using their emitted signals, my satellite would be able to pinpoint the exact location of a satellite with a visual as well. I would like to build a rocket which can solve the problem of over usage of groundwater for agriculture, as in today's world the major problems are climate change and sustainability, alongside agriculture being the backbone of a country, so managing water usage and to keep in check of something which can make or break a civilization, will be quite helpful for the world today. If I could build any satellite, I would craft my satellite to be capable of sustaining itself in the Sun's core, I would use it to use it to study the sun's core in close proximity and use certain minerals or substances from the core to make Earth a better place. The substances present might also serve as an alternative and practical source of energy. Our societies depend on crops like wheat and barley as a primary source of food. However, many diseases in plants result in reduced yields leading to famine. As a solution a satellite that can detect subtle changes in leaves will help detect infestations and disease before it turns into a hazard. What makes it unique, is that the satellite can use AI to help detect and identify change, whether it is discolouration or an actual infestation. It is useful in the agricultural industry to mitigate pest infestations and diseases that lead to famine. It is ideal for large scale plantation to easily help monitor the crops. I would want to build a space mining satellite, serving as a hub for space mining operations between asteriods and earth. My satellite would be made to collect any materials sent from the miners, process it in space and create another space mining robot. The excess would be sent back to earth. If I had the chance to build a satellite, I’d want to make one out of a material strong enough to get closer to the Sun than any satellite has before. That way, we could learn a lot more about the Sun and maybe even discover things we didn’t know existed. What would make my satellite special is that it could handle the extreme heat, making it possible to explore areas that are currently out of reach. I would consider building a satellite that helps us better visualise and hence strategically approach large-scale environmental problems. For example, pollution within the ocean. With the technology we have now, by the time we find a gyre of plastic or a significantly concerning phenomenon, it's often too late for us to address effectively. Our systems are more "reactive" than "proactive". Thus, a satellite equipped with a payload enabling hyperspectral imaging through which we can distinguish microplastics from organic debris by their unique lightabsorption fingerprints. Existing technology used to identify algae blooms as well and infrared technology to assimilate temperature changes can help us develop better predictive methods. Such a satellite built as a result of a global effort against marine pollution would encourage collaboration in our fight against marine pollution and stop the problem at its roots, between possibly even NGOs, environmental agencies, and even smaller local communities and the public. If I could make any satellite, I think one that helps farmers would be really useful. The satellite would take super clear pictures of all the fields, like every day. Then farmers could see exactly which parts of their farm need water or fertilizer, or if there are bugs eating the plants. That way, they wouldn't waste stuff, and they could grow more food for everyone. It checks if changes in ozone are making parts of Earth warmer or cooler in the upper part of the sky where weather happens. Helps climate scientists understand how heat is trapped or released and could improve weather and climate models. 4)Would love to study dynamic changes of cosmic microwave background, though unsure as to how to approach it. I want to study periodic changes in the exosphere and outer space to better predict changes, also to study the various electromagnetic waves present in the space. This is a tentative topic that I might change, and I will delve deeper to make the topic more precise and complex, especially unique. I would build a satellite designed to provide free and accessible WiFi connectivity across the world, especially targeting remote and underserved regions. This satellite network would help bridge the digital divide, enabling education, communication, and economic opportunities for people without reliable internet access. I would therefore like to build a satellite that monitors roads and has the ability to identify road disruptions like potholes and measure the dimensions of such disruptions to analyze their potential impact on the safety, speed, and comfort of commute on the road. An in-depth analysis of these identified disruptions would allow us to run simulations of the way vehicles move over such roads and therefore understand the impact of the potholes on the vehicle movement and how the vehicle's tires cause the pothole to expand/creates potholes. This would allow for more efficient improvements in transport infrastructure to be made and more issues to be identified. It would also help improve urban planning as a bigger picture of a region's commute network can be viewed via the satellite's images. I believe this idea is unique as there aren't many existing satellites used for this specific purpose. Personally, I am interested in this as I have attempted to conduct a pothole survey before and faced challenges as there were several vehicles on the road while I was conducting the survey, so I couldn't take precise measurements. I also did not have the opportunity to really observe how the vehicles were impacted by the potholes. Hence, I believe such a satellite would allow for much more precise measurements and a much better view of vehicles' interactions with the road. Also, photographs can be taken of the same roads everyday to analyze their deterioration over time. The satellite would incorporate radiometers that measure the Earth's electromagnetic radiation. Resource depletion on Earth has been a significant issue for decades. While many existing satellites do work towards discovering important resources on other planets, I feel like soil availability is an issue that requires more importance towards. Despite using previously known inventions like NPK sensors, I want my satellite to use these familiar devices in a unique way by analyzing surfaces on Earth to see if their gravel and material harbors the important nutrients required as a replacement for soil, considering the significant benefits like food production and harboring habitats that soil availability holds towards humanity and life on Earth. If I could build a satellite, I would want the satellite to provide free/cheap data to households in rural areas, so that the people living there would be able to stay connected with the world at rates that they could afford.
