Instructions: For this report you can either turn in pdf copies of the original pages from
your laboratory manual or a Word document. You can turn in the original pages from
your lab notebook on Tuesday January 28 at the start of lab or upload your files by
11:59 pm on January 28 also.
Part II Calculations and Results
Calculate the ratio of the volume of base to volume of acid for each trial.
Calculate the mean (average) of the ratios.
Calculate the absolute deviation of the volume ratio for each run.
Calculate the relative deviation (ppt = deviation X 1000 = parts per thousand average
value) for each run.
Calculate the average relative deviation.
Part III Calculations and Results
1. Show one calculation for the molarity of your NaOH solution. Use the mass of
primary standard and the volume of titrant needed to calculate the molarity to 4
significant figures.
3. Average the results. Then calculate the relative deviation for each run and the
average relative deviation in parts per thousand (ppt).
4. Prepare a summary table of results showing the run number, the calculated molarity
for all runs, and the average relative deviation for all runs.
Part IV Calculations and Results
1. Show one calculation for the molarity of your HCl solution. Use the volume you
delivered from your burette.
2. Calculate the average.
3. Calculate the relative deviation and the average relative deviation in parts per
thousand (ppt) for your HCl concentration. Prepare a summary table of results.
3. Report the average molarity and the average relative deviation.
Part V Calculations and Results
1. Show one calculation for the equivalent mass (Equivalent mass = sample mass/moles
NaOH).
2. Average the results and show one calculation for the relative deviation and the
average relative deviation in parts per thousand.
3. Prepare a summary table of results. Report the results and the calculations of
deviation as you did for the unknown HCl solution. Don't forget to include the
unknown number.
Part VI Calculations and Results
1. Show one calculation for the moles of carbonate ion, the mass of carbonate ion, and
finally the % carbonate ion of your unknown.
2. Show one the calculation for the % carbonate and relative deviation.
3. Prepare a summary table of results. Report the average % carbonate and average
relative deviation along with the unknown sample number.
