Bees, frequently compared to mathematicians, showcase this trait when constructing their
honeycombs with exact measurements. They are able to gauge angles and determine the
area of their honeycombs in order to reduce wax consumption, as producing wax is energyintensive for them. Bees can only produce 1 ounce of wax for every 8 ounces of honey.
When bees choose the shape of their honeycombs—be it circles, triangles, pentagons, or
hexagons—they have to pick the most efficient option that suits their needs while avoiding
wax wastage. In the end, they opt for the hexagon.
