GSL
Honourable Chair, Distinguished Delegates,
The Republic of Türkiye stands today to underscore the urgent need for collective,
balanced approaches in addressing contemporary security challenges that threaten
regional and global stability.
Firstly, military alliances, while initially formed for deterrence and protection, can
inadvertently escalate tensions when driven by exclusionary motives. Türkiye, a
founding member of NATO, recognizes the value of such alliances but stresses that
they must be tools of de-escalation—not provocation. Transparency, dialogue, and
mutual trust must guide their operations.
Secondly, unilateral sanctions continue to erode the economic sovereignty of
nations. Türkiye believes that such measures often disproportionately harm civilian
populations and exacerbate regional instability. We advocate for multilateral
engagement over coercion.
Furthermore, the presence of foreign military forces in conflict zones must be
critically assessed. While peacekeeping is essential, the line between stabilization
and provocation can easily blur. Türkiye has consistently contributed to UN
peacekeeping missions but maintains that host nation consent and regional
cooperation are paramount.
Missile deployments near national borders represent another rising security threat.
Türkiye has faced such pressures directly and calls for greater transparency and
arms control mechanisms to prevent misunderstandings that could escalate into
armed conflict.
Lastly, regarding the Indo-Pak conflict, Türkiye encourages peaceful dialogue and
diplomacy. Lasting peace in South Asia can only be achieved through mutual
respect, restraint, and a willingness to resolve disputes through constructive
negotiations, not warfare.
Let us work not for power or dominance, but for peace and mutual prosperity.
Thank you.
