Every assignment is generally worth 10 points. Within each key concept, assignments will be graded according to the points assigned. Assignments with more points are worth more towards your grade. The semester grade is primarily based on mastery of standards, and mastery is demonstrated on assessments. Late work is accepted under special circumstances, please check with the teacher. What are the requirements for this class? Course Requirements Technology Requirements: All cell phones, laptops, computer desktops, Vernier lab equipment, zSpace computer laptops etc. must be used appropriately and only for educational purposes. If a student is unable to follow directions or instructions an alternative assignment will be given in another location. Any lost or damaged equipment will be paid by the student or team of students assigned to the particular station. Classroom Requirements: All school furniture and supplies which includes the lab station, chair, sink or lab equipment (bunsen burner, electronic scale, glassware, chemicals etc.) is to be used appropriately and safely at all times. Any disruptive behavior or horseplay will not be tolerated. An alternative assignment will be given in another location if needed to complete a lab. Eating, drinking, or chewing gum must be done outside or before you enter the classroom. Backpacks need to be stored under the counter or lab station. Instructional Requirements: Students are expected to log into Schoology on a daily basis to access student information, class notebooks, assignments, quizzes, tests, and other activities. Students must actively work on the assignments in class individually or in small groups. Students will have access to an online and class textbook. Writing in or defacing textbooks is not allowed. Any student or team of students who damage or misuse textbooks will be asked to pay for the textbook. Students are also expected to check school email on a daily basis to be aware of school and class announcements. How will we ensure students are learning? Questions students often have about school. Communication between the teacher, student, and parent/guardian is essential in achieving academic learning goals. Below is a list of common questions and how to be successful this year. “Where can I get extra help?” The best place to get help is to ask questions in class. However, you are also welcome to email your teacher, schedule and attend MacLab, or schedule tutoring before or after school. Parent/Teacher conferences are also available as needed throughout the year. “Can I redo or retake an assessment?” Yes! However, before you redo the assessment it is best to study and review what you missed. This means correcting all missed answers and signifying where you found the information. You cannot do a retake if you are missing any work for that unit, therefore, you must turn in any late work to be able to retake any test. COURSE NAME: Chemistry/ GCU Dual Enrollment 2025-2026 “Do I have to be at school every day? “ Attendance Matters! The number one cause of low grades is poor school attendance. Assignments are specifically designed to be done in class and not at home. If you need assistance or encouragement in getting to class please let your teacher know. “Can I turn in late work? “ Yes, generally all assignments are due the next day from when they are assigned. You have the opportunity to earn credit on late assignments by the end of the unit. Please check with your teacher for special circumstances. Pay attention to due dates; they are closer than you think. “Can I sit with my friend, I promise to do my work?” Class time is precious and is for doing your classwork. The number two reason for low grades is because class time is not used effectively. Extra care is taken to have you sit in a seat that is best for not only you but for other students. If you have a special request please let your parent/guardian know and have them send the teacher an email. “I’m finished with my work, what can I do?” Check your grades on StudentVUE and check to make sure you have done everything for all of your classes. Many teachers offer enrichment activities or extra credit. Take this time to increase your knowledge and to be prepared for class. What will we do when students have already learned it? Students who master the standards before the end of the key concept will be offered enrichment assignments or projects to extend their learning. Students who decline are expected to complete required key concept assignments and assessments. Additional Class Procedures: All district policies will be followed. Entering and Exiting the Classroom Keeping our classroom clean and organized. Make sure you get to class on time. A student is tardy when the bell rings and they are not in their seat. If you need to step out for a minute please check with the teacher. If you need to use the restroom or get a drink please sign in and out of the classroom. Cell Phone Procedures Cell phones should not be a distraction. Cell phones should be placed in your backpack and backpacks need to be placed under the counter or station. Please put your trash in the trash can. 5 minutes before the bell you are expected to clean up. If you need a pass let the teacher know. If a mess is left, a reminder email will be sent home to have you stay after school or to come during lunch and clean the classroom.
