RAM
Inorder for a data or programme to run on a
computer, it need to be loaded in to a RAM first.So
the data or gramme is first stored on the hard drive
than from the hard drive its loaded in the RAM.
Once the data loaded into the RAM, the CPU can
now access the data or run the programme. If the
RAM is to low it may not able to hold all the data
that the CPU needs. To solve this problem you need
to increase the amount of RAM on a computer. The
more memory you have, the more easily your
computer will be able to do multiple things at once.
RAM is volatile and loses data when power is switch
off.
The capacity of RAM is
measured in (GB)gigabites
and its speed (Frequency)
Measured in MHz
(megahertz) – e.g., 2133
MHz, 3200 MHz, 4800 MHz
HDD/SSD
The function of an HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or SSD
(Solid State Drive) is to store data permanently,
even when the computer is turned off. This includes
your operating system, software, files, photos,
videos, and more. While HDDs use spinning
magnetic disks to read/write data, SSDs use flash
memory and have no moving parts, making them
faster, quieter, and more durable. SSDs significantly
improve boot times, app loading, and overall system
performance compared to HDDs.
When choosing an HDD or
SSD, key technical aspects
to consider include storage
capacity (measured in GB
or TB), which determines
how much data you can
store; read/write speeds,
which affect how fast data
is accessed or saved
(SSDs are significantly
faster than HDDs); form
factor (like 2.5", 3.5", or
M.2), which must match
your device’s physical
space and interface; and
interface type—HDDs
typically use SATA, while
SSDs may use SATA or the
faster NVMe over PCIe.
VGA
The function of a VGA (Video Graphics Array) is to
transmit video signals from a computer to a display
device, such as a monitor or projector. It converts
digital signals from the computer into analog signals
that the display can understand, enabling user to
see images, videos, and user interface on the
screen. Although VGA is an older technology and
has been largely replaced by digital interfaces like
HDMI and DisplayPort, it is still used in some legacy
systems and devices for basic video output.
When dealing with a VGA
(Video Graphics Array)
component, key technical
aspects to be aware of
include its analog signal
transmission, which can
limit image quality
compared to modern digital
interfaces; its resolution
support, typically maxing
out at 1920x1080 (Full HD)
but often lower depending
on cable and device quality;
the connector type, usually
a 15-pin D-sub connector;
and signal degradation over
long cable lengths, which
can cause blurring or
ghosting in the display. VGA
does not carry audio
signals—only video—so
separate audio connections
are required. Additionally,
compatibility with modern
devices may require
adapters or converters, as
many newer laptops and
GPUs no longer include
VGA ports.

A 64-bit operating system is faster, more secure,
and better suited for modern applications and
multitasking.
The speed of a computer processor is measured in
gigahertz (GHz), which indicates how many billions
of cycles per second the CPU can perform. A higher
GHz value generally means the processor can
execute tasks faster. However, speed also depends
on other factors like the number of cores (which
allow multitasking), cache size, and processor
architecture. So, while GHz is a key measure, overall
performance is determined by a combination of
speed and efficiency.
Laptop 3,
performance increase during demanding tasks and
excellent for heavy work, like video editing, gaming.
Laptop 2 and Laptop 3 both have 24MB cache,
which is larger than Laptop 1’s 12MB cache.
Faster access to data and less delay in multitasking
Laptop 2 CPU
Computer storage and memory are measured in
units of bytes, which represent the amount of data
they can hold. The basic unit is a byte (B), and larger
amounts are measured using prefixes like kilobytes
(KB), megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), and terabytes
(TB), where 1 KB = 1,024 bytes, 1 MB = 1,024 KB,
and so on. Memory usually refers to RAM (Random
Access Memory), which is temporary and used to
run programs and processes. Storage, like HDDs and
SSDs, is permanent and used to save data and files.
More memory and storage allow a computer to
perform tasks faster and store more information.
Laptop 3 - RAM
Volatile - data is lost when the laptop power is off
and non-volatile stored data when the computer
shutdown.
Laptop 3, it has 4800MHz Ram speed which make it
faster than laptop 2. Less chance of system
slowdowns or crashes.
Laptop 1 and Laptop 3 both have 1TB storage.
However, the type of storage is crucial (HDD vs. SSD)
Laptop 2 SSD
Laptop 3 has the fastest storage (ASUS ROG
Zephyrus G14) it has 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD. If you’re
dealing with large files (e.g., videos, games, software
development), larger storage like in Laptop 1 and
Laptop 3 is more beneficial.
Base on my preference I choose Laptop 2 – the Dell Inspiron 15. It offers the best balance
between performance, portability, and price. With a powerful Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB
RAM, and a fast 512GB NVMe SSD, it can easily handle multitasking, research, online classes,
and even creative tasks like photo or video editing. The touchscreen with a 360° flip design is
great for note-taking and presentations. Its long battery life and lightweight build make it ideal
for carrying around campus. Compared to Option 1, it has significantly better specs and faster
performance. While Option 3 is the most powerful, it’s heavier, more expensive, and its features
are more suited to high-end gaming or professional creative work, which exceeds my current
academic needs.
The essential concepts in computer technology, focusing on the different types of computers,
their components, and the basics of computer networks. Computers range from powerful
computers and mainframes to everyday desktop PCs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Eeach
designed to meet specific user needs—from casual use to advanced computing tasks. A typical
computer system includes key hardware components such as the CPU (the brain of the
computer), RAM (temporary memory for active tasks), storage devices (HDD/SSD for longterm data), motherboard, power supply, and peripherals like monitors and keyboards. The
concept of computer networks, such as LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area
Network), and Wi-Fi, which allow computers to communicate, share resources, and access the
internet. Understanding the purpose and setup of these networks is crucial in both personal and
professional settings.
