GSL
Honourable Chair, distinguished delegates,
The Republic of Argentina believes that supply chains are more than economic
systems — they are lifelines connecting communities, economies, and lives
across the globe. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed not only their fragility, but
also the inequities embedded within them. As nations rushed to secure critical
goods, developing regions were too often left behind. We cannot allow this to
continue.
Argentina supports a balanced approach to restoring resilience and equity. We
recognize the role of global institutions like the WTO and WHO, but we also
acknowledge that their responses have not always prioritized the most
vulnerable. According to the FAO, disruptions in 2022 pushed over 45 million
more people into food insecurity. Meanwhile, vaccine inequity saw low-income
countries receive only 4 doses per 100 people at the height of the crisis,
compared to 133 in high-income nations.
We urge this body to prioritize inclusive investment in regional infrastructure,
and to strengthen mechanisms for transparency and equitable distribution of
critical goods during crises. Resilient supply chains must also be climateconscious, ensuring sustainability for future generations.
Argentina stands ready to collaborate with all nations to craft solutions that
strengthen the weakest links, empower the most vulnerable, and reaffirm the
principle that resilience must serve all, not just the few.
Thank you.
