Unit 3: Educational Leadership for Social Justice and Diversity
Introduction
To understand the connection between broader society and how educational institutions
(such as schools) can be agents of social transformation, in Unit 3 we explore the different
philosophical and theoretical conceptions of social justice. The linking of critical educational
leadership with social justice and transformation is a recent development in the discourse;
and is fast becoming a crucial issue as educational institutions become increasingly diverse
because of globalisation, forced and voluntary geographical of people. We identify and
debate recurrent themes - such as race, gender, socio-economic class and other dimensions
of diversity to explore their relevance, application and implications for enacting
transformative educational leadership that promotes social justice.
