About subject land
Location
• Located in district “Kurjak” (near Udbina).
• Very well connected since its located within a 5 km distance from A1 highway exit “Gornje Ploče” .
• Located 50 km air distance from National Park “Plitvice Lakes” and 50 km air distance from Zadar (70 000 inhabitants with millions of visits every year).
• Stretches out on 210 000 m2 of mostly cleared land (no trees).
• There is an electricity substation near the land originally built for the purposes of constructing tunnel Sv. Rok.
• Land has capacity for ~22 MW solar power plant.

Urban plan
Explanation of the zones
•
•
•
•
T – touristic purposes (hotel etc)
T3 – camping
R – sport and recreational activities
Yellow field – construction area
•
In urban plan, it’s initial purpose is for building a camp, hotel or some
other similar touristic buildings, but owners were in talks with the
head of district “Udbina” about possibilities of building a solar power
plant and they were ensured that they will get a “green light” if an
investor presents himself.

Why solar power plant?
• According to Eurostat, gross primary energy
consumption in Croatia in 2020 was 9.02 Terrawatt
hours (TWh) and final energy consumption was
7.52 TWh.
• In February 2020, the Croatian government
adopted a new Energy Strategy for the period until
2030, with an outlook through 2050.
• Renewable energies account for approximately
28.5% of Croatia’s energy mix.
• The government intends to spend about $1.4 billion
on grid modernization, with a goal of increasing
renewable energy source connections by at least
800 MW by 2026 and 2,500 MW by 2030.
• Battery Storage: captures electricity for use
at a later time
• According to BCG, Croatia has great potential for
solar energy usage
• Photovoltaic: PV panels for conversion of
sunlight to electricity
• Croatia has one of the highest amounts of solar
radiation in Europe (3.4-5.2 kWh/m2day)
• Combined Heat & Power: CH&P plants with
various feedstocks
• The largest opportunity lies along the Croatian
coast that is flooded by tourists who overload the
local infrastructure capacity during the summer
(in 2021, despite the pandemic, 13.8 million
foreign tourists visited Croatia – a country of 4
million inhabitants).
• EMS/VPP (Environmental Management
System/Voluntary Protection Program)

Potential for solar power plant
Potential for solar power plant in Udbina
•
Land has an elevation of 625 m
•
Recent studies show that solar energy is more efficient at high altitude
than at sea level.
•
This confirms that higher altitudes have more direct radiation and less
diffuse radiation.
•
As a result, full solar radiation is available at higher elevations, creating a
more efficient PV system than ground-mounted PV systems.
•
The research conducted by DHMZ stated that Udbina is the town with the
most sunshine hours on the land (first is a town of Hvar located on the
island Hvar)

Solar power plant in Obrovac
•
The Obrovac solar power plant, which installed capacity of 8.7 MW and
connection capacity of 7.35 MW makes it currently the largest solar power
plant in Croatia in commercial operation.
•
The 6.9m EUR worth Obrovac solar power plant was built in the area of the
former alumina factory.
•
With an annual electricity output of about 11.3 million kWh, it will be able
to meet the needs of more than 3,500 households.
•
On an area of 117,137 m2, 27,544 photovoltaic modules produced by the
domestic manufacturer were installed.

Solar power plant in Vis
•
SPP Vis is the first large solar power plant constructed on Croatian islands.
•
This 3.5 MW plant will produce, incentive-free and fully market-based,
about 5 million kWh of electricity, which corresponds to electricity
consumption of about 1,600 households.
•
It is located on the area of 5.5 ha.
