Law
and
Criminality
Definition:
Law and Criminality
Law means the rules made by the government to keep everyone
safe and fair.
Criminality means breaking those rules. When someone does
something wrong like stealing or hurting others, it is called a
crime.
Law and Criminality is about understanding what the rules are,
what happens if someone breaks them, and how justice is given.
Introduction
Our role play was based on a courtroom trial
involving unauthorized downloading of
copyrighted material, such as movies and
software.
The accused was charged with violating
copyright law by downloading and sharing
content illegally.
I was the leader of the group and also acted as a
witness in the trial.
As the leader, I organized the group, assigned
roles, and helped guide the preparation process.
To collect information, we used school notes,
websites, YouTube trial scenes, and AI tools like
Chatgpt to generate ideas for scripts, courtroom
dialogue, and legal vocabulary.
Using AI helped us understand how real
courtrooms work and gave us ideas on how to
make our role play more realistic.
We used those ideas to write a detailed script,
plan the questioning, and make the trial flow
naturally.
During preparation, I learned many new legal
terms like prosecutor, defense attorney, verdict,
accused, intellectual property, and testimony.
My Experience as a Witness, Jury Member,
and Leader in the Drama
As a witness, my responsibility was to give evidence
that supported the case. In our role play, I testified that
I had seen the accused using illegal websites to
download and distribute copyrighted content. I had to
answer questions from both the prosecutor and the
defense attorney and remain calm, serious, and
truthful. My testimony helped the jury understand what
happened and played a key role in deciding the verdict.
As a jury member, I listened carefully to all the
evidence presented during the trial. I paid close
attention to the testimonies, including my own, and the
arguments made by both the prosecution and defense. I
discussed the facts with other jury members and helped
decide whether the accused was guilty or not based on
the evidence. This experience taught me how important
it is to be fair, logical, and unbiased when making
decisions in court.
As the leader, I helped the team stay focused and
prepared. I encouraged rehearsals, gave feedback on
acting, helped fix weak parts in the script, and reminded
everyone of their lines and roles. I also made sure
everyone used the correct legal terms and acted
seriously in court scenes. Being a leader taught me how
to manage time, motivate others, and stay calm under
pressure.
Reflection
I believe our role play went really well. We spoke
clearly, stayed in character, and followed the correct
courtroom procedure. I’m proud of how I helped the
group stay organized and how I delivered my lines.
This experience helped me understand how serious
digital crimes like unauthorized downloading are, and
how the law protects creative work. It also taught me
the value of teamwork, leadership.
How We Could Have Done It Better
Practiced our lines more thoroughly to improve
confidence and fluency.
Added more realistic expressions and body
language to better reflect courtroom emotions.
Rehearsed transitions between scenes to make
the trial flow more smoothly.
Used clearer and louder voices so everyone in
the class could hear properly.
Incorporated more legal terminology naturally
into our dialogue.
Allowed time for feedback and improvement
after rehearsals before the final performance.
