Application Letter Guide
An application letter, also known as a cover letter, is a formal document that you send along with your
resume when applying for a job, internship, or academic opportunity. It introduces you, explains your purpose
for writing, and highlights key qualifications.
Below is a guide to writing an effective application letter.
Parts of an Application Letter
1. Sender's Address
- Top right corner of the letter.
- Include your complete address and date.
2. Recipient's Address
- Left side below the sender's address.
- Include the name, position, and company/school address.
3. Salutation
- Use a formal greeting like:
Dear Mr./Ms. [Last Name],
To Whom It May Concern,
4. Opening Paragraph
- State the purpose of the letter.
- Mention the position you're applying for and how you found out about it.
5. Body Paragraph(s)
- Highlight relevant skills, experiences, and qualifications.
- Show how you fit the role or opportunity.
6. Closing Paragraph

7. Complimentary Close and Signature
