THE LAST SUPPER
 Mention the reason for the celebration of the
Passover feast.
 State what the items used for the feast
symbolizes.
 Give the significance of the last supper.

 What do you understand by Passover
 Jesus celebrated the Passover with his
disciples in Jerusalem. It was the last supper
he had with them before his crucifixion on
the cross.

When the time for the celebration of the
feast came, the disciples came to Jesus and
asked of the place where they would
celebrate the Passover. He directed them to a
certain house to inform the landlord that he
would celebrate the Passover in his house.


Wine: Blood of Jesus
 The disciples went and made preparations for
the feast. They would buy unleavened bread
(bread without yeast), a year old lamb without
any defect, bitter herbs and wine, and
arrange the tables in the room for the feast.
 In the evening, Jesus sat at table with his
disciples for his last meal with them. As they
were eating, he told them that one of them
would betray him. They asked him to mention
the betrayer.
 He replied that the one who would dip his
hand together with him into the dish was the
one to betray him.
 As they were eating, Jesus took bread,
blessed and broke it and gave it to the
disciples and said: ''Take, eat, this is my
body.'‘
 Jesus took the cup, and when he had given
thanks, he gave it to them and said:
 'Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of
the new covenant which is poured out for
many for the forgiveness of sins.'' He told
them he would not drink of the wine again
until they all drank it new in God's kingdom.
 After the supper, they left for the Mount of
Olives to spend the night there.
 The Jews celebrated the Passover to
commemorate their liberation from political
bondage in Egypt in the time of Moses.
 Jesus gave the Passover a new significance, it
now signifies the spiritual liberation from sin
of all who believe.
 The bread represented his body which would
be broken at his death on the cross.
 The wine represented the covenant blood
which God would use to establish the New
Covenant to give us the will to overcome
temptations to sin. It also represented the
atoning blood of Jesus to forgive us our sins.
 The Last Supper also represents the sacrificial
death of Jesus Christ on the cross which
saves us from or sins.
 Christians celebrate the Last Supper on
Sundays and on special occasions as the Holy
Communion or the Eucharist.
 When we celebrate the Holy Communion, we
have fellowship with Jesus Christ and with
one another, as Jesus had fellowship with the
disciples.
 “This is my body which is given for you, do
this in remembrance of me”.
