INTRODUCTION
Superconductivity is not a very young discovery. But it is applied in
rather narrow areas due to complicating factors.
The purpose of my presentation is to highlight these few examples
related to manufacturing.
SOME WELL-KNOWN INFORATION
DEFINITION
Superconductivity is a set of
physical properties observed in
certain materials where electrical
resistance vanishes and magnetic
flux fields are expelled from the
material.
Any material exhibiting these
properties is a superconductor.
PROBLEMS OF MANUFACTURING APPLIANCE
All the superconductors would
show it’s properties only at
extremely low temperatures.
Amounts of consumed energy,
needed to cool these materials,
much bigger than the amount of
saved.
That’s why superconductivity
today does not have a global
distribution, as it should, and
everything is determined by the
cost of conductors.
Massive cooling
EXAMPLES OF USAGE: SCIENTIFIC NEEDS
Scientific researches
Scientists use conductors to
create incredibly strong
magnetic fields.
They care little about energy
consumption, so they are free
to conduct research on the
search for dark matter,
experiments at the Large
Hadron Collider,
thermonuclear reactor and
so on.
EXAMPLES OF USAGE: ELECTRIC MOTORS
Another appliance of this
phenomenon is electric
motors. It is used in wind, water
and another types of
generators, because it allows
to increase it’s efficiency.
Also these motors are often
used at military spheres.
EXAMPLES OF USAGE: HTS WIRE
In China, which is
now very intensively
developing this
technology, there
are projects of about
35 transmission lines.
At the picture you
can see the
construction of HTS
cable.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion I want to say, that the phenomenon of
superconductivity has a huge potential to be used in future.
Nowadays scientists are trying to make a breakthrough that would
allow them to create high-temperature superconductors. Now this is
the main task, and until it is overcome, people can not fully use this
phenomenon.
